The Standard is now 1,199 and the Special is 699.

It looks like Gibson is responding to Fenders price increase.

I personaly never liked anything about the SG besides the tone.It is a great sounding guitar but I never liked the feel of it.One of these days I am going to pick up that cherry sunburst LES PAUL I wanted for the last thirty years though.

When it comes to Guitars everyone has there taste. IMO nothing wrong with a SG. And the Les Paul cant be beat, The Guitar player in my Band has a Real 57 Les Paul and a new one he bought last year. Way to go Gibson bring those priceses down.

That SG has to be a closeout of that particular model of the SG. No one cuts their prices by half unless they want to clear out the stores of what few SG's are left for new offerings. It could have been a special Guitar Center or Musician's Friend/Music 1,2,3 model. It is probably what the guitar is really worth. I find that Gibson is way too expensive for what you are buying. I own one Gibson, an ES 339 and that will be my only Gibson.

Hey Guys, I dont want to complain... Threads like this are not fait to our Host! Fender is very tolerant of posts talking about other products, but come on, this is an advertisement for the "other guys" Please show some respect for the forum that you are on.

Ok, you can let me have it if you want :?

It is not disrespectful. It is just a discussion on non-Fender guitar prices. Further, I don't think Fender minds for two reasons...
1) Allowing "free conversation" allows the marketing group easy access inside the heads of real consumers.
2) If the discussion is going to occur anyway, isn't it better for Fender for it at least to occur inside the confines of Fender.com?

I don't think it's dis-respectful at all...

The SG is a great guitar. I think it's good that GIBSON can lower there prices, I hope it brings them more business.

I think in this economy...Fender should follow suit.

+1. A price increase wouldn't of been so bad had it been a bit less than...what was it...25%? Or was it 30%. Way too much. A 10%-15% probably wouldn't of been so bad, because of the Fender quality. Right now though, a small price decrease would be pretty nice. A Am. Std. Strat on sale for $1425 is not quite a sale special... :?

after reading all of the threads, I got to thinking. Let's all sign up for the Gibson forums and start posting Fender Sales and Fender Polls like Strat or Tele? I posted a great article about Jeff Beck's original Esquire that I found on the Gibson website. I have read quite a few good articles on the music buisness and artists as a whole. I wish Fender would do more of that too. We would all be better.

I don't think we should have a problem with any postings about any of "the other guys". However, if the poster has an excessive tendency to plug a certain non-FMIC brand and seems to exist in the forums for the sole purpose of being anti-fender, we shouldn't tolerate that. There is a difference between solid debate and a waste of everyone's time. We all remember a certain someone who was recently removed from the forum for being a very rude waste of time.

I may be jumping the gun on this, but I think we need to be suspicious of our new friend. He has two posts to his name and they both advertise the SG. Why would one join a Fender forum to simply advertise Gibson? :? Perhaps our new friend is someone from our recent past?

I do hope that I am wrong.

Its nothing but a poor ploy to steal customers. The sg was first introduced to attract strat players. Perhaps they think thats still a workable plan. The 3lipstick'd sg that came out a year or so ago was as near a strat copy as some of the early burns or watkins guitars. The fact that Brad allows this on this site just goes to show how unconcerned fender are by gibson at the moment. You can bet if this kind of spam was posted on the gibson site it would be removed quicker than lightspeed. You'd be banned and probably receive a visit from the MIB.
