Hey guys, just wanted to know a little comparison of performance between the '57/62's and those Custom shop '69 pickups. Whats the overall difference in tone? I'm looking for some new pickups for my American Standard, which I have restrung lefty. Any Info? Thanks

The 57/62s are SLIGHTLY more powerful than the 69s and have an adequate midrange whereas the 69s don't really have any midrange to speak of. On the other hand, the 69s have a tighter bass and the highs will pin your ears to a wall.

Depending on your stylings, either set can be an excellent work horse. However, I'd mix and match:

IMO, the 69 is one of the best single coils there is for the neck position. And for a moderate output bridge pickup, the 57/62 is equally outstanding. For a middle pickup, I find either to be too 'clanky'. So, staying within the Fender brand, I'd go with a Fat 50s. Needless to say, the infamous, "quack" would surely still be there.

One thing: All three sets mentioned have pronounced, "righty" polepiece staggers which may or may not be an issue for you.

How do the 69s sound with a (midrangy) TS-808 style overdrive?

The TS is most effective in adding in the midrange. Unfortunately, it also proportionately brings up the hum.

If you scroll down to the pickups area or do a search, you'll find a lot of information.
