The GRATEFUL DEAD. I never understood the fuss or enormous following of this band. When I was in high school and kids would write thier favorite bands name on there book covers a good friend of mine had the dead written on his and always raved about them.By the name I thought thaey were going to sound like Sabbath or ZEP and when I finaly heard them not only was it not what I expected I did not think it was good. And here is where your on one side of the fence or the other but I dont think Gerry Garcia is anything special as a guitarist.I mean he played like 5,000 gigs and his later stuff was ok but to me the guy had no chops. The same friend turned me onto Zappa which also had a strange effect on me but in a positive way though his music was quirky and had some of the strangest titles I dug it and thought he was an unique player.

without doubt, i do not understand Metallica's music at all

I've ever increasingly had this problem with most bands since 1982 (give or take a couple of years either way).

I don't get the whole evil music thing. Who wants to hear about the devil or any other evil thing hurting people. Why would any one want to go to hell? It is a senseless waste.

Would it be very unkind to mention Bjork on this thread...?

Any band that plays Polka music...

Seriously...WTF? Accordions AND Tubas? At the same time?

It's got to have something to do with beer, but I still don't get it.

That's funny, I was raised on polka music here in WI, and yes there's always beer around....!! Throw a trumpet in with the tuba and accordion and the polka jam is on!!!

I don't understand rap/hip hop like the Black Eyed Peas for example, sorry, I was raised on polka music cuz the old man is the accordion player, and I'm a KISS fan so go figure that I don't get it.

Or country, really, why so sad?

Yeah, well on paper I suppose it's quite easy to understand.

The bit I'm not getting is why anyone would pay money to go sit through that awful noise? But many seem to...

Funny you should mention the Dead. When I started to get into the scene in the mid seventies, it was with just a couple of friends. The vast majority of my music enthusiast buddies' attitudes toward the Dead were "Don't get it," "Don't care," or "Don't like it." I'm sure you are not the only one here that wonders what all the fuss is about.

Since this is about BANDS and not types of music i'd have to say.

Bruce Springstein and the E street band. I have no freaking clue what the hell he is saying at any point in his grunting and his songs never go anywhere.

Second I know this is a Fender blog but John Mayer....i don't get it, i get the guitar playing hurray, but i don't get his voice, it sounds like someone twisting Dave Matthews balls.

Third NICKELBACk...WTF how SH***Y of a band do you want? they should just get a Colostomy bag to catch all the crap spewing from their mouths. they are so pathetic it make me want to donkey punch Chad Kroager in the face for sucking so bad....UGGH!!!

I must confess that I hate Journey with a white-hot passion. I know most people like them, but I find everything about Steve Perry irritating to the point of madness. They're the most successful bad band ever, in my opinion.

Another band I really don't get is Meatloaf, but I'll save that rant for another time.

Thank you. I feel better now. 8)

Creed and Nickelback top my list of "It's not that I don't understand them, I just don't understand why so many people think they are great." bands.

Also, I never really got why many people seemed to like Korn...The bass and drums do some sort of funky groove-beat, the guitars make some sort of whine or screech noise then play some riffs/chords, and finally you have Jonathan Davis sounding like Elmer Fudd half the time talking about how messed up he is cause of his stepfathers abuse...repeat this formula for most of the songs on their CDs, then repeat for several CDs until your fan base grows up and/or moves on...
