Get advice from your local hardware store. There are many wood finishes and you need to follow the instructions very carefully to achieve a good finish.

Good luck and send us a picture.

What kind of wood did you use? What kind of finish are you looking for? Sounds like you want to see the wood, no opaque paints? There are a ton of options, so we need an idea of what you want it to look like.

The guitar is for a earth day project so my dad said instead of using spray paint and spray gloss i used wax as a temporary thing for the showing of the project. when i get it back i will make it actually workable. I put a dummie pickup in just to make it looks like it works. I will post pics later

Stew-Mac sells aerosol lacquer... your choice of Vintage Amber, Cherry, Red Mahogany, Black, and Vintage Tobacco. Then you can put gloss or satin over it.

A Flying V would probably take 2 cans of colour (depends on how much colour you want) and five or six cans of clear.

Hi rock god: so you've already put wax onto that wood, is that right?

That's problematic: you may have to sand that off again before going any further. I'd be concerned about spraying any finish over wax and being sure of getting good adhesion. And I'm wondering if there's any silicon in the wax formula you used, which would complicate matters further, far as guitar lacquer is concerned.

As has already been asked, we need to know the final finish you are hoping for. Natural, semi-transparent or a solid color?

Over to you...

Cheers - C

Yup, you might want to make another body and start prepping it for paint, from raw wood.

And let the one you have wear a wax natural finish with pride.
