Many people/magazine/other musicians/whatever don't like Yngwie Malmsteen because his playing style....

some critics say he put more stuff in the solo/interlude part than the song (verse, reff, bridge, whatever) part.
Usually, solo part less than 1/3 of the song (in my opinion)...but some of Yngwie's songs have soloing part almost half of the song.....what an ego...

You'll get sick if you too much listening to him, I think....

IMO, his playing sounds like a technical exercise, no feeling.

Not a fan of him at all. His songs aren't FUN. :D

You know what they say about opinions. Everyone has them.

Anyways, you are right you need to be "in the mood" so to speak and can tire of his style since there is relatively little change over the years.

However, to say the guy plays with no feeling is a rather myopic viewpoint. He is one of a few select musicans that are truly passonate about their music. You may not care for his style or technique but to call the guys feeling out is rather inappropriate.

If you don't like him fine. Not everyone will. However, saying things like he has no feeling sounds unintelligent.

Remember your first statement. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it! :) Peace!

I agree that writing lyrics is not his strong suit. The dude is a fretboard technician and is very good at what he does. Others have said that you have to be "in the mood" for Yngwie and that's a spot on statement. I much prefer Satriani or Vai.

I still stand by my post. Like I said if a person doesn't like him or his style fine. i'm not the barrister for Mr. Yngwie anyways. But why quesiton a guys feeling? Makes no sense. If you don't like the music just say so. That is the really cool thing about music it is so deverse. If I don't like a particlular song, style, player I just say "not my cup of tea" and move on. I still respect that it takes talent and its cool that someone came up with something, wheter I liked it or not. More of a respect towards someone's effort.

It is not all about techique either. I've seen, played with, known quite a few Yngwie clones in the day. Envision the movie Rockstar and that is how some guys tried to copy Ygnwie. Spandex and all. Not a pretty sight. We used to reffer to them as basement dwellers since they spent an inordinate amount of time in their mother's basement after an Ygnwie album release. They'd practice for hours to get it note for note but had no orginality or feel to the piece. Just a note for note rehash of what someone else has already done. Heck post car accident some guys I knew played Ygnwie with better technique and cleaner then he did. Even after his recovery. However, they never graduated from the basement sans a few gigs at the Token, Paychecks, etc.

I tend to agree about people who say he has no feeling. maybe a different feel, than you(definitely me, heh,) might like.

Personally, not really a fan, i can hear a song of his once and a while, and like it, but i won't buy anything of his, doesn't really do it for me.

But I remember reading , a long time back, and he was talking about how when you play more slowly you tend to capture the 'feel' of individual notes, and intervals more, but when you play very fast you tend to capture the over all feel and character of the various scales and modes you are using, and that was the 'feel' he was striving for.

I do not intend on going back and forth with you but I did think you calling a person unintelligent for not agreeing with your opinion was a little much. Anyway, no disrespect to you. Enjoy your day and Peace to you! :)

Malmsteen is just too full of himself, imo. All of his songs sound the same to me, a jumbled up mess of notes. I like to hear the individual notes in a solo, but that's just me.

And another thing, +1 to the guy who said Malmsteen's music isn't fun. It isn't. No cool grooves or anything. THAT, is what makes a song.

He only played his freakin' instrumental songs, except Red House, witch is Hendrix. But have you ever saw his performance with his vocalist?

NO LEONARD I have not heard any Alcatraz or his other band but if it was good I would probably know something. The one thing is the guys chops are of the chart no one can deny that he is one of the greatest technical players that ever lived but his music just does nothing for me,Thats the Differance with VANHALEN he has the technical chops to die for and has written great music throught out his career. The bottom line is it all starts with the SONG FIRST PERIOD.
