Yeah, I'm paid to play. I have just about the perfect situation with the guys in my band right now. We jokingly call ourselves the "3 1/2 Men" show since we're 3 pc with a singer (he gets 1/2 credit for not playing). Two of the members have kids in college and can play whenever they want, so they are involved in another group playing more "lounge-ish" type fair. Myself and the singer have kids as young as 6 at home so family time is a priority. We are able to compromise with our group, Outta Hand, to a pretty steady once a month gig schedule. We play enough to have fun yet not so much that it's like work. We have a good following and have a blast.

I also play in a group at our church.

In reference to the earlier conversation where people giving you smack about how much you get paid, silly. Every situation is different and every group is different. The whole thing comes down to your goals, are you trying go make a "name" for yourself or a career in music. If so, than yeah you probably need to play alot. For me it's a hobby, something fun to do, a great diversion. We get paid $400-$600 for a 4 hour gig plus soda and tap beer. For our area here in Central WI, that's pretty good. We pay our bills and have a good time.

Oh yeah, the soda is for me and the lead player, niether of us drink when we play. You wouldn't believe how much flac we catch about that , some folks never grow up.

I do, on occasion... I haven't in a while, but I haven't really "kicked off" my career yet... this summer I'm starting to book shows.

If you are playing for beer, tips and free game, you probably dont expect to make a living at it. You probably are doing it more for fun. The beer, tips and free game are really just a nice little bonus, a nicety. In this case, you really arent competing with anybody. And where do these guys draw the line, anyway? Where is it OK to play essentially for free? Frat parties and backyard BBQs? That market wont support union-set wage costs. So just keep having fun. 'Im jealous, would love exactly that gig.

Thanks Big Jay-

We really do play for fun. We practice like professionals but all in all it is for a good time. We are a local favorite playing classic rock and some originals- The locals like to get drunk and dance- Its all good wholesome fun.

Keep Rocking Friends- !!!!!
