"Pay" is being blessed and privileged to use music as a link to greater spirituality and being appreciated by listeners.

And that in this picker's opninion, is way more than adequate compensation.

Somehow, Ceri, I suspect music has something to do with why your wife became interested in you to begin with.

Moreover, given you clear knowledge of many different musical interests, I suspect you could find something to play for your neighbors that would appease them.

They might come knocking, but probably not to complain, eh?

Of course, you appear to know Frizzle Fry dont you? maybe I should rethink my assumptions about you.

The only thing my wife has ever been able to cite as to why we're together is my making of a) bread, and b) cocktails.

My wife is big on opera: she sings Mozart and Puccini in Italian (in the shower). Unfortunately, I went through my opera phase decades ago and am far out the other side by now... :(

And Frizzle Fry was sheer chance, based on the taste of a previous girlfriend. You were absolutely right to be surprised I knew that one!

:D - C

Bread and cocktails, eh? Well, in my case, I met my wife by enticing her with cocktails.....more like clouding her vision.....and the bread, well, if you mean something with which to pay the bills, that bread is a very useful tool to keep them around, eh?

Get um drunk and buy em stuff. That works, at least for me. I cant come up with another reason for anyone to put up with me. You know me in these boards, but could you imagine me in person? Good Lord! She is a saint, even if she is drunk and spoiled!

No, see that's where the problem is. The bread I'm talking about is the yeasty kind - unfortunately.

Which is where the cocktails come in!

I have two friends that play services also. They do a lot of inspirational work with youth groups and even played a prison gig a few months ago. I'm thinking about joining them when I get a little better on the guitar.

Hey FenderHeads-

My band is currently playing on the local "Bowling Alley Circuit" and we mostly play for Beer and tips- A free game is also thrown in for good measure.

I have caught a lot of smack on other boards because I work for beer- They say I am taking away from the musicians who earn their money from their music- I would like to hear your opinion-

Parties are a good way to make a buck or two...

Making a living in music is tough but I don't see how your venue, and beer for pay, would affect anyone playing clubs or other gigs. As long as the music is good and everyone has a good time that's what it's all about. I knew all through school that unless I became a teacher I would likely never make enough to live on. That's why it's a part time deal and I have a full time job that pays the bills. And no, we have never been asked to take less money because somebody else would play for beer. That might cost more knowing how some of our guys drink.

Yes I get paid to play. It is a second job now. It started as a hobby but things started to happen and now we are playing weddings and corporate events, private parties and we get paid pretty well. I don't think I'll ever make enough to make it my primary job, it will always be a second job. But I enjoy it too much to really call it a job. I consider myself very fortunate to be in the band I'm in and try as much as possible to make it fortunate for my bandmates. I hope to continue for quite a while as well. We play all covers just in case anyone was wondering.

To increase the cash flow you have go with the following!!!

You woke up this morning. Got yourself a gun.
Mama always said you'd be the Chosen One.

She said: You're one in a million you've got to burn to shine,
But you were born under a bad sign, with a blue moon in your eyes.

You woke up this morning all the love has gone,
Your Papa never told you about right and wrong.

But you're looking good, baby, I believe you're feeling fine, (shame about it),
Born under a bad sign with a blue moon in your eyes.

You woke up this morning the world turned upside down,
Thing's ain't been the same since the Blues walked into town.

But you're one in a million you've got that shotgun shine.
Born under a bad sign, with a blue moon in your eyes.

When you woke up this morning, when you woke up this morning,
When you woke up this morning, you got yourself a gun.
