Wasn't that about 1965? Or does it just seem like it?

I have six Fenders 3 tele 3 strats 5 years ago I went on a lil spree and bought a JEFF BECK AND CLAPTON model. At the time I think they were $1,300 .My teles are made in japan models because at the time (mid 80s) I felt the mij models were better than the U.S ones, and offered models you could not get in U.S unless they were from the custom shop -62 reissue-72 thinline.Fender stopped japan from exporting there guitars here because a lot of people felt the same way.Fender steppede up and has been producing some great quality and new improvements on guitars of late but I could not believe when I recently saw the BECK AND CLAPTON models are now going for over $2,000 and an increase in all models.Outside of Gibson which was always high priced you know have PRS and DEAN,ERNIE BALL,and even PEAVEY (THE WOLFGANG WAS A KILLER GUITAR AND THE HP IS OUTSTANDING) Making high quality high priced guitars. On the average I would put Fender 4th on the price end behind PRS,GIBSON,AND DEAN.I guess they just figured it was time to up the prices, even though they picked a bad time to do it(BAD ECONOMY) The only advice I could give is to buy your guitar on ebay.I bought my Beck and Clapton models brand new on ebay for $1,000 each and saved over $300 on each and if I was to buy something else thats the way I would go.The other way to look at it is you can buy a guitar today for 4-5 hundred dollars that is going to ge a quality guitar you can perform or record with and thats going to llok great to.Fender and Gibson both know they are not the only quality companies around anymore so everyone is offering more for less.Which you could not get years ago.So do you really need a tiger flamed or a quilt top or birdseye maple neck or an artist series instrament because these are the things that are going to jack up the price.I mean Vanhalen slapped together $2oo dollars worth of used parts and 20 years later a few idiots payed $25,000 for the same parts.I have always been a Fender guy and outside of one refrett my guitars have never had to go to the repair shop for anything but a setup. They are built to last, solid and dependable.I own a few Wolfgangs which I love and at the time I needed a guitar with humbuckers and was going to get a gibson but the Wolfgang blew me away, but when someone asks me what guitar should they buy for there first guitar I say get a Fender .

I say for shame Fender, taking measures to stay in business...

Why doesn't Fender just follow the successful business strategy of American auto industry giants like Pontiac and Chrysler....oh wait...

Welcome to the Forum. Yeah the prices have gone up. It has been discussed several time here already. Eventually they will either come down (mad sales) or the economy will pick back up. As someone else mentioned a little increase to ensure the survival of the company seams like a small price to pay for a Fender product. After all I would still like to get an American made Stratocaster for the wopping $300 dollars they were in the 60's.

This is the reason for different models and different prices. I hope you can find one you can afford in the near future.

Sarcasm is a form of irony that is bitter or cutting, being intended to taunt its target. It is first recorded in English in The Shepheardes Calender in 1579:

Yeah for crying out loud what's with the price increase in such times. I wanted to buy a Blues Deluxe amp and it went from 6 and change to 899. So what did I do?? I went to the used market. Sorry Fender I wouldda much preferred buying new but considering the price increase and the current economic climate what alternative did I have?

I still find it interesting that when these posts appear they are frequently from first-time posters that never post again.

I think what was being meant by some comments mine included was that this was much talked about a few months ago in fact there were dozen of topics back then on this. Most thought it was a bad time for such a increase and did not under stand the reason behind such and we will never no. I dont think fender did it because they need the money because after research I have founnd they appear to do very well. In years 2000 there revenue was 262.9 and 2007 estimates have them at 438.0 M. with only Yamaha and Harman Profesional ahead of them is this branch of the Music industry.

Nothing personal djp but if you search the subject you will see that it has been repeatedly gone over and revived again and again in the forums. Sometimes by people from the Gibson forums and even by a disgruntled ex-Fender employee. If it's meaningful to you by all means post away. I was merely pointing out the fact that it seems some people sign up for the sole purpose of negative marketing and may or may not be employed by competitors of FMIC. As such, I was referring to the original poster of this thread. Not you. My response just happens to be after your's that's all. I apologize if you were offended in any way as that is not what I intended and I welcome you to the forums.

geez guys, give him a break. I know it has been hashed over a billion times before however, it does strike one when their weighing a purchase. For instance I went to GC last Friday and fell in love with the Hot Rod 40w tube combo. The price was 848.00 or something right around there. To know it was 6 and changes just a few months ago makes it a bitter pill. I pasted on it. I figure this economy will have prices falling soon enough.

Sounds like he's just venting to me.
