From http://www.thisdayinmusic.com

May 2nd, 2004, Total Guitar magazine's readers voted Guns N' Roses' anthem ‘Sweet Child O' Mine’ as the greatest guitar riff ever ahead of Nirvana's grunge anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Led Zeppelin's ‘Whole Lotta Love’ came third, followed by Deep Purple's ‘Smoke On The Water’.

Total Guitar editor Scott Rowley said: "To a new generation of guitarists, Guns N' Roses are more thrilling than the Sex Pistols."

The greatest guitar riff ever is Led Zep's "Black Dog." There can be no further discussion on this subject.

:D

I will go along with those but not necessarily in that order.
I'd add Paranoid by Black Sabbath to the list.

I'm going to have to say that hendrix's voodoo chile riff is better than any riff written by slash

Perhaps not the greatest, but don't forget "Aqualung."

Honky Tonk - guitarist Billy Butler , Satisfaction - guitarist Keith Richards , many memorable guitar riffs , i can remember the band or artist name but don't remember the guitarist on the recording.

By The Muse? Or are you referring to another song by the same name?
