I havn't watched a horse race since I was about 9 or 10. We used to get these gamecards at the grocery store that gave you a horse and a dollar amount. You would watch the race on a certain day and if that horse won you won whatever was on your gamecard. It was called Let's go to the Race's if I remember correctly.

I used to go when I was in school in southern In. I got to see Affirm run I belive she lost the Bellmont which cost her the tri-crown.I really dont follow anymore since I moved west.
