Checking email and social media stuff. Might go for a walk later, or jam out on the bass. I'm not sure yet what's going on, other than getting Chinese for dinner, since that's kind of a Christmas tradition for us, and they're actually open.

A very Merry Christmas to you, and LED ZEPPELIN Paul. Nice listening music there. Image

Merry Christmas to you, as well, Glenn. You know, you can only listen to "Jingle Bells" so many times, before you have to go and flush your brain out with some good, old fashioned narcotic music, as my dad used to call it. :P

Thank God for the 60's! I'm closing the place down for the night. Blue Cheer has always worked super- fine! Image

Yeah, that's definitely some "narcotic music." :P Blue Cheer is also something that must be played as loudly as possible.

Going to go for a long walk, then watch some films, and put in some bass time.

Checking email and social media stuff. I'm not sure if I'm going to be jamming, or not. Maybe go for a walk.

I’m browsing Boxing week sales of electronics including musical gear such as a small grab and relocate amp that will meet my needs and preferences. I’m looking forward to see what related offers come from NAMM.

There are some interests that I have in
mind; but, I’ve yet to run across a deal on my bucket list. Lots of great tv sales, but I already own two well known entry level smart TVs, and one well made older limited smart TV plus an older little used non smart 55” HDTV projector. Too bad they work as new. There’s OLED in my hands, and I agree that sharpness in flat screens have greatly improved. Colour is generally better and sound, usually lacking, varies; but, that’s typical. Sound bars and/or subwoofers. behind the screen seems to be of some interest.

Features like wireless connection to the computer, You Tube, Netflix, and limited apps are old news. So is obsolescence and apps that no longer work or never did (often based on location or contracts). Full internet can be a welcome addition today. I believe (as do the networks) that’s where TV is headed anyhow. Apps may be the only channels available in the near future.

As reported and confirmed, privacy is increasingly becoming a concern (or not) because TVs have the ability to listen in and watch more, eh? Analytics could be the reason for offering full Internet on the TV. I’m not keen on being the entertainment, and that is sure to be the case in the future like it or not. Maybe I should clean up my act and polish up my performance. For now I can’t justify jumping ahead sale or no sale. YMMV.

I do have some interest in the seldom seen extra wide screen TVs (similar to some gaming monitors) that can be particularly seen in some hotels and yachts. These could become the next trend in homes. Curved are out there, same for 3D, they fill a niche. and for whatever reason they are not fully embraced, at least in this country YMMV.

I have yet to look them up, but my guess is they don’t come cheap.

It’s a technical world (so much redundancy in features and programming, and take over of control by the providers of satellite, cable, or whatever provider) and I still have a large bookcase wth unread stories.
On second thought I might need the latest greatest super sized TV set for news, talk, reality, and reruns. Cough.

For movies and sports - definitely. 8)
That’s what Boxing Week and Cyber Monday are for.

Doing a lot of laundry. Maybe go for a walk, or jam on some bass, but I'm not sure yet.

Trying to keep my lips sealed from saying $&@&! I’ve added dimmers most everywhere through the years and this house is no exception.

Long story short troubleshooting an overhead lamp and possibly a bad switch or older wiring issue resulted in a zapped switch and a run downstairs to throw the switch to the breaker off. Luckily I caught it arcing before something worse occurred. My guess is the breaker didn’t do it’s job as happens particularly with this brand where I know of historical documented circumstances well known in the States, but less so if any here in Canada with the same company but different build. Add counterfeit breakers on the market and anything is possible. Thankfully, the wiring isn’t aluminum or too old, but it isn’t grounded in lesser areas as was the practice in the 50s.

I’ll buy a new breaker and switch after I shovel out from the present snowfall which will be a surprise to see upon wake up. If I don’t solve it, an electrician is liable to rewire a line for a simple switch or burnt lamp all in the name of keeping with the never ending new codes. Hopefully, we won’t have to buy a new light too as we really like the existing one,
Meanwhile, no power in the bedrooms and one wall of the living room. So no power, lights, or tv in the bedrooms; but, we have power bars for the mobile gear to make up for it.

I’m also hoping tomorrow’s hydro inspection with the new furnace is approved. Ah, yes. I remember the days of calling the apartment caretaker for help and he’d show up a day or two later. Work around the house. Gotta love it. Should be an interesting day tomorrow.

As long as you got your toque, you should be OK. :P You should see the electrical setup in this place. The house was built in 1882, with gas lights installed before electric, and still have outlets from when they were first installed in here. God knows how old those are. I think they still work, though. They basically are a single, round two prong outlet in the center of a rectangular plate, and dark brown in color.

Yup! Got my toque to save me. :P I know those outlets, Paul. We had them in our 100 year old home. They may have been British or at least European. Lookee that. Now with Brexit I guess that identity would be proper now,. The ones we had were from the old country. Those gas lamps would be cool to see. I wonder how many CO2 alarms they used back then.
We also had an electric log fire assembly that had a vintage amber light bulb that today would be no trouble to replace. After exhausting all known resources locally, and with online shopping in the early stages back then, I convinced a mate of mine to see if a replacement Siemens bulb could be had on his naval trip to jolly old England. No luck.

That old stuff is pretty interesting unless you get shocked with cleaning an antique chandelier like I did. I once got jolted from moving an ungrounded TV light while on a ladder, and it’s true one may have, as in my case, a brief moment of uncertainty and recall, where the body can seem to be stuck to a bad contact with something related. I got what appeared to be pinhead size black burn marks on the five fingertips of my one hand. I must be blessed with all the major and minor shocks that were given to me. I’m still here. Those zaps can jump from an adjacent source even with static electricity contributing to it. I wear nearby kitchen rubber gloves while working at times and am savvy to know not to use my left hand in a risky position so as to not to give electricity a short path to my heart.

Stay safe.

Since it's been raining, I doubt I'll go for a walk. Probably do some jamming on the bass, instead, which is fine by me. 8)

I know what you mean/ we've had to have an old chandelier fixed recently by an electrician. One time I went to replace a bulb in it, and doing so caused some sort of short, which caused the breaker to kick on. I've wondered what they would have had in here before any electric was installed, besides some of the gas lamps.

This place has been constantly messed with over the years, so it's a patchwork of all kinds of odds and ends. There used to be an elevator where my office is, there was a laundry room where the upstairs hall bathroom is, because you can still see the dryer vent on the outside of the house, and there's some sort of plate plugging the wall in the inside, under the window, and a couple of metal plates that must have had some sort of electric outlets there at one time. Now, there's an old claw foot bathtub there, a closet next to that (which I know wasn't there originally, because there's some small window inside of it, that I can tell was original to the house, and next to that is a shower stall, which is one of those molded ones with the glass door that opens out, and you have to step over to get in. I don't know how far those go back, at least the 80's or 90's, I think.

There are also two lighting fixtures in there that were converted to electricity from the gas lamps, over where the sink is, and some antique mirror between those, and a toilet off to the right of that, with the tub on the opposite side. That's at least two of the gas lamp fixtures, with one more in the hallway near the linen closet converted to electric, and couple more in two other rooms that are just capped off with some sort of pipe end. I have no clue where that even would have gone to, if any of it still exists. There's all kinds of old pipes in the basement, with some of them just capped off and just there.

That's just only a couple of the odd things about this place. That would be something to see the original blueprints to it (if they still exist somewhere) to see what the original layout would have been like.
