. . . Man, I sure miss those baked goodies but happy that you enjoyed yours. My oven hasn't been on once in five years, except for frozen pizzas.
Don ‘t feel too bad about it, Marky. Home cooking and baking is becoming a rarity and a thing of the past, especially if the food industry gets their way. Not if the infomercials succeed. There are basically two camps. Those that eat out more and those that eat out less. After so many years of eat and run throughout my career, I prefer the latter except for the odd exception. I think location has a lot to do with it too.

You know how this or that person is made out to be a great baker? Plenty of good ones to be found for sure. Some are average and some are terrible. It’s easy peasy to choose the bakery or store which didn’t always provide the collection available today. Nowadays it’s often cheaper to buy ready made goods with ingredients that are questionable or unlisted to say the least.

I got lucky to marry a woman who is a very good cook; but, in this house I cook gourmet, and Mrs. FSB excels in baking. She grew up with her grandmother who previously owned a Canadian farm on the border with a family farm on the U.S. side. Her grandma made and sold butter and where it was old school cooking and baking out of necessity. Mrs. FSB’s mother carried on the tradition with her grandma moving in, and all three living in the same house would cook and bake together. Later my wife’s mom lived with us, and the baking and cooking flourished. Over the years the baking dwindled to almost a halt. :?
So. now it’s my threats, pouting, and blackmail that, once in a blue moon, gets me baking. I do best in times like Christmas when she makes for others and I gladly get the spinoffs. Can I bake? I can count the times on one hand and nobody ever asked me to do it again. I do. however, make a mean original Black Forest cake laced with Kirsch, filled with a cream filling, orange liqueur marinated overnight big black Bing cherries, and topped with whipping cream, maraschinos and chocolate. It helps to call a cab though  . . . but, that’s once in a blue moon too.

We also have a frozen pizza in the freezer taking up room for ice cream.

Now ya know. :P

Hey there, Paul. I missed that you and your back took a beating. Bummer. I hope you are managing okay. You don’t want to make any permanent injury there.

I don’t know if this can help in the future; but, at my age I try to outsmart the heavy stuff when I can. First, avoid heavy lifting when you are sitting or kneeling. Even moderately heavy lifting in this (the wrong) position can do great damage when least expected. Second, I use an inverted carpet (like a door mat or runner), with the woven or rubber underside as a grip, and the topside as a slider. Usually works great for pushing and/or pulling. I also have some thin 1/4” (less or more) thick sheets of plywood that fit through door ways. That’s not only good for sliding but also great for manoeuvring over thresholds, for preventing damaged floors along with preventing injured backs. I also have what looks like coasters, plastic on the sliding faces, and rubber on the other. These are often available at a discount store (like a dollar store) or at your big box hardware store.

One final tip. If you fall or wrench your back . . . easy does it. No sudden correction movements even as painful as the injury can be. You might do or add to the damage, as experienced in our family that, had they not straightened out suddenly might have found more relief over a lifetime.

Those Roland drums are cool. 8) It’ll be cool if and when you get over the pain quickly and permanently, Paul.

Best,
FSB

Thanks. We actually have stick on felt pads, which are probably like what you're talking about, because we do have wood floors all throughout the house, and have them on the seats in the kitchen and the table that's in there. The amp has wheels on it, but I'd have to move some stuff out of the way to roll it out, and I was being lazy to do that, so I just lifted it out of there. That's not what got me, though. When I was carrying past the recording desk that's set up next to the doorway, I got hung up on the room divider screen that's in front of that (which I probably should have just moved out all of the way, but I thought I could clear it,) and I knocked over some stuff on the desk, and I twisted my self in reaction to that, and then it hit my back hard. It's not too bad today, though. I'm feeling it, but aspirin are helping. I'm still walking, so I guess I'm not doing too bad. :P

I think it's too cold to go out for a walk tonight, so I think we're going to be doing some drum and bass jamming, which I'd rather be doing, anyway. 8)

Those room dividers will get you every time. I have two tipsy ones on a carpet in my family/music room too. They’re great to quickly hide a mess though. Good to see the aspirin is helping, Paul.

The problem with aches and pains is that over time one never knows when that hurt will sneak up on ya. While mowing slightly damp grass years ago I stumbled backwards. I slammed my back above my butt against a crossbar that was holding up my old chain link fence. Now a pinched nerve flames up consecutively in a short span or not at all. I found grasping the top of a doorway, hanging and stretching helps. Unfortunately, I’m not able to do that anymore. Phht! It’s a method that
might help someone else though. Thankfully, I can go a long time between that irritation.

I think I have an answer for sore backs. Wrap some ice in a toque and slapped it in place. :P
Keep up the healing process, Paul.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with a toque. Those are like the Swiss Army knives of headgear. :P

Yup! You the man. I can see the commercial now. 8) “Look sharp, feel sharp”. Dang! That won’t cut it. I think that’s been done before.

Even though it's sunny out, it's just too friggin' cold to go for a walk, so I'm going to watch some films, and put in some bass time.

I'm going to fire up the Ampeg and do some jamming on the bass, with my girlfriend on the Roland drums. It's been too cold to do any walking, but I'd rather play music any day. Later, I'll get some Chinese for dinner.

A while ago, I put up some Christmas lights on the front of the house.

Looking at modern art. Only millions more choices to peruse.

Maybe, I should just hang a new Strat. It was modern from the day it was designed, and it still is now. :P

You know, with things like bananas being duct taped to the wall and calling that art, a Strat wouldn't be a bad idea for that. :P

It's also a tradition to leave them hung up long after the holidays, because it's a pain in the arse to take them back down. :P

Thanks, for the reminder, Paul. Now I’m thinking (Uh oh).

I could probably hammer a potato to the wall and sell it when it rots. It’ll be more colourful then and in demand. :P Aha! That banana. I totally get it now. Brilliant.

I’m thinking there might be a place for potato head and banana toques for the 2020 lineup.
