We’ll likely still have guest sleeping accommodations; but this time it won’t be staring you in the face since there are some great comfortable alternatives out there today.

Now the problem is getting rid of two inherited sets of bedroom furniture (we think one of them is spoken for).

I don’t know what’s better. Being old and having a collection of stuff to sort out, or being young busting a butt to collect it. I’m trying to remember if there was an ideal time when I was somewhere in the middle of it.

Sometimes, I think I need a barn or an aircraft hangar. :P

The music room? Tough to move freely with the axe, pedals, and whatnot. Useable but it’s divided length wise instead of width wise . . . well, I need an arena for that.

That sounds like you have your work cut out for you. You should make sure that you have the appropriate area for your toque hats to be stored and displayed. That's important, you know. :P Speaking of that, we really need to organize our wardroom room, I guess you would call it that, since it's filled with racks of clothes, and other random crap like some stomp boxes and cables, because it used to be our rehearsal room, until we started doing some serious clothes shopping the past couple of years for stage, and whatever else. It's a cluster you know what in there.

Thanks Gary and Paul. I am lovin' my new DAW. The more I use it, the more I like it. I've just about finished the entire manual and when I read something new, I do it in the DAW and save it so it really sinks in. I'll still have Studio One, Adobe Audition CC and Ableton Live 10 but I doubt they'll see much action. 8)

Did some errands earlier today, and I need to do some domestic crap around here.

Today I started Christmas shopping, and since I accidentally walked into a used bookstore I left with a ton of stuff for myself. I ended up buying bilingual editions of Goethe's poetry, Faust, and a collection of Kafka's parables. I also bought a copy of Deliverance (because it was on display and only 4 dollars). Waiting for HARDKORE to show up and make fun of him. Hopefully he comes back after I read it. Shopping is totally hard. I'm counting the remaining days on the calendar.
Welcome darvinjan. Happy Christmas shopping.

I hear ya. The worst thing about straightening up is that it disorganizes routines, and puts everything out of sync from the norm. :? I’ve always thought we miss out on using all that vertical space. When I was a kid my model planes hung on thin line and filled the ceiling. Pennants and memorabilia filled the walls; but, things were relatively neat under my standards. My guitar should have hung on the wall so my brother wouldn’t have accidentally stomped it. Today, I’d like the audio video gear including the TV, guitar amp and gear, hidden to drop in from the ceiling. Aw, fuggedaboutit. I have a hard enough time deciding the best place to store my harmonicas.
Actually, after the stint I had a short while back, it made me realize, along with others I know in the family, that priorities need to be taken care of (with the alternative of leaving others a mess to struggle with). I didn’t expect to elaborate on the theme though. Kinda came with the territory. Happy wife, happy life (she deserves it). Seems to be working. :D
After the work, I’ll kick back and play a lot. Them’s the rules. At least that’s the plan.

Waiting for the LaZBoy repairman to come finish the repairs and a grocery delivery. Then I have an online webinar to get credits for my Radiography Continuing Education (a requirement to maintain my license). Then a nap. :)

Doing some laundry right now. I'm not sure what's going on later. A lot of rain, so no walks today.

I screwed my back up and scraped my knuckles on my right hand trying to move the Rumble 350 combo out of the office area, and around my girlfriend's studio setup next to it, so I'm sure I'll be feeling that even further when the aspirin I took wears off. I guess this will probably remind me that I'm no longer 20 years old, so we'll see how that pans out. I also had to lift my Ampeg and Fender 4 x 10" cab over the threshold of the tiny room it was stored in to get it out of there, since there was some stuff in the way to simply roll it out, and I was too lazy to mess with it. Man, I forgot how heavy bass crap is, since it's been awhile since I've moved it. :P The whole point out of doing all of this was my girlfriend has a set of Roland electronic drums she set up tonight, and she needed the Rumble to plug into, and I needed the Ampeg to play bass through, so we both could jam. So, we're going to be jamming with bass and drums, which will be fun. 8)

You know, oddly enough, I'm actually really good at organizing stuff, and kind of like doing that. Once you get over the initial anxiety of dealing with the overall mess, and start digging into it, it just starts falling into place. Especially, if you have a system or a plan, which I think is important. Just take it piece by piece, or section by section, and try to be patient.

Paul - I hope you're able to stand upright in the morning. Maybe a heating pad or ice pack would help. Ibuprofen is a very good anti-inflammatory. Good luck and feel better!

It was a busy but successful morning. All missions accomplished. Now it's time to hit the hey.

Pretty cool grabbing those credits online, Marky. I’m a firm believer in using that method for better access to a better education where up to date information is distributed for current and future needs. I’ve seen Dr, Robert Ballard and Jane Goodall educating by teleconferencing kids, taking their questions, and giving answers around the world all from a National Geographic IMAX Theatre. Just think. Education can be gathered by anyone from anyone under the right circumstances with technology and even with economics. I used to televise a daily morning network show called University of the Air where experts taught nation wide on national tv. We once brought in local Inuit to teach the history and meaning of Eskimo art. Beats the Anglophone’s French or Spanish lessons. The province of BC and elsewhere have educational satellite coverage which helps with remote areas and for those living on watercraft for example.

Some years back I watched a televised twelve consecutive hours of across America discussions and debates with scholars, government officials, educators, and union representatives amongst others in the know. They discussed the failures and possibilities in the education system and spoke of what could be and what wasn’t. More to the point the whys and whatnots. In the end it was concluded that special interests and lack of desire are the two biggest hold backs preventing a well accepted move forward, and things are not likely to change on a wide spread scale,

Good luck with those credits, Marky.

I had a delivery for the bedroom today. It was an abstract canvas painting/print that was an online purchase from New Jersey. It’s always a bit of a surprise, and gamble ordering something like that not knowing if it will look good in person versus the photo or graphic on the web page. I studied art, and my office was upstairs to an art department full of talented artists and set designers that worked with me so with that under my belt I took a gamble. Lucked out. It got the wife approval, and I got fresh baked butter tarts with pecans along with shortbread. :D

Thanks. The aspirin I did take seemed to have helped, and I'm not hurting now. I did stand and play for a couple of hours without any issues, and I carried a large load of laundry up a few flights of stairs, but that wasn't as heavy as those amps. I guess I'll see tomorrow if I did anything serious damage. Hopefully not. The funny thing is I barely even noticed scraping my knuckles because of my back, but that was just a little skin and it didn't really even bleed. I've done worse to my hands than that, anyway.

Hey there, Paul. I missed that you and your back took a beating. Bummer. I hope you are managing okay. You don’t want to make any permanent injury there.

I don’t know if this can help in the future; but, at my age I try to outsmart the heavy stuff when I can. First, avoid heavy lifting when you are sitting or kneeling. Even moderately heavy lifting in this (the wrong) position can do great damage when least expected. Second, I use an inverted carpet (like a door mat or runner), with the woven or rubber underside as a grip, and the topside as a slider. Usually works great for pushing and/or pulling. I also have some thin 1/4” (less or more) thick sheets of plywood that fit through door ways. That’s not only good for sliding but also great for manoeuvring over thresholds, for preventing damaged floors along with preventing injured backs. I also have what looks like coasters, plastic on the sliding faces, and rubber on the other. These are often available at a discount store (like a dollar store) or at your big box hardware store.

One final tip. If you fall or wrench your back . . . easy does it. No sudden correction movements even as painful as the injury can be. You might do or add to the damage, as experienced in our family that, had they not straightened out suddenly might have found more relief over a lifetime.

Those Roland drums are cool. 8) It’ll be cool if and when you get over the pain quickly and permanently, Paul.

Best,
FSB

Thanks, Gary. The webinar was excellent and it's so convenient.

I'm glad your artwork got the official thumbs up. Man, I sure miss those baked goodies but happy that you enjoyed yours. My oven hasn't been on once in five years, except for frozen pizzas.
