I just finished a nice practice session. Counting yesterday, I put in 7 hours of practice. :)

A Black Friday / Cyber Monday online journey:

I thought I’d elongate the following FYI should you run into this or a similar issue, as I have been told, others have.

Today was a busy day that followed Black Friday and the sales afterwards. I placed a Black Friday online order and got confirmations from both the vendor and PayPal.

Then the next day, Saturday, I got a vendor’s “can’t complete the transaction” email with no reason ever given even though they confirmed with a pending payment available. I spent hours on hold after the vendor’s customer service Chat confirmed the order’s unknown problem must have been solved because an active order existed (even though the left hand of the vendor said the opposite afterwards). After 3 plus hours of on hold music, if you can call it that, I was about to place a call back option when “Office is closed” was announced. This was one tIme I didn’t try connecting simultaneously with two phones where taking the first answered one is a routine. I find this often speeds up the process. A disconnect came my way. At least now I could find my way to bed as I was hooped.

Sunday, still coordinating PayPal and the vendor, when my calls were finally answered, I spoke with the local store where I had made pickup arrangements. We came to the conclusion things should work themselves out, and if not I’d go there with a return need be blah blah. Called PayPal, and they said the payment is still pending and cancellation was not possible, until they are satisfied from the vendor, or something to that effect. The vendor chatted the order was cancelled, but later this was found to still be in the loop pending payment approval which we now know had gone bad somewhere.

Mrs. FSB was really hoping to get the evasive item so, not to disappoint, after three days of long phone calls, researching past, present, and future distribution of funds, and chasing a misdirected order, I placed a second order on Cyber Monday using PayPal with the option of returning the first order and, if necessary, this second order and/or getting a refund. Again, the same problem arose, and there were more dragged out hours of trying to get through to find out what the problem was.

Would this second attempt bring us the original Black Friday savings and the unique order with a second kick at the can? No luck. Confirmation at both ends and again another trouble email with 72 hours permitted to correct it.
But, how? PayPal was waiting to have the vendor’s withdrawal. No mention of stock being unavailable, and no mention of how we got to this point. The hours ran out for Cyber Monday. Got the sale, but not the item so far.

Finally, on Tuesday (today) with automated queries asking if my phone number to call back was correct (it wasn’t even close, causing me to be suspicious of phishing for this and other sensitive information that was asked for clarification), and after giving up trying to re-connect to PayPal on a fully packed Cyber Monday, I closed the deal today, Tuesday, (6 days after the initial transaction). I don’t give up easily. A great knowledgeable customer service rep at the online vendor immediately cancelled the first order and modified the second order, and I did a direct purchase bypassing PayPal. I’m happy to say Mrs. FSB should get her purchase now. :D
I later found out some credit card information had been incorrectly changed in my PP profile without my input or permission, and I was informed by the vendor that this and other automatic changes have been known to create similar problems with PayPal. Until now, I had never run into this issue. On my attempts, I couldn’t enter corrections or updates to the credit card because, after entry, the PP web page would confirm the user’s corrected change, and then everything would automatically and quickly revert back to the incorrect version? A PayPal representative assured me that all would be okay for purchases now and later; but, until I see the delivery and make another purchase we’ll have to see.

Can’t put full blame on anyone, except to say I guess Black Friday and Cyber Monday were and are perfect names for the events. :P

If that wasn’t enough excitement for my day, we went out afterwards in the evening, and we returned to a non functioning 18 year old furnace. Not good at this cold time of year. I had a small standby heater to get us through the night; but, as I said earlier, I don’t give up easily. Long story short, I managed to get the furnace working after a little work; but, other discoveries mean a new furnace is a safer and better choice, and there’s never a good time. Looks like I’ll be doing the test runs at the expected coldest time of year. Better get my toque ready. 8)

Gary - You sure have you're hands full. I hope you get a new furnace. Stay warm!

Today I have to run some errands and bring some things to a sick friend. Then it's Strat time!

Thanks, Marky. Just woke up to find the furnace not running again, problem being is that one is at the mercy of the furnace suppliers in a case like this. The besf time to buy it is when you don’t need it, and in the spring which we were hoping for.
Gotta do what ya gotta do.

Nice that you’re lending a helping hand for your friend. Have a great day my friend.

Going to go for a walk, then watch a film or two, then put in some bass time.

Shoveled snow moved tools. paint, junk, good stuff, and work table so the installers can remove the old and install the new furnace. Then i get to put it all back on one of the coldest weekends.
Meanwhile it’s fish and chips washed down with a Moscow Mule made by Mrs. FSB. She’s a keeper. :P

I was going to play but my calendar reminded me that I have a doctor appointment in two hours. Darn reminders, I would have happily forgotten about it.

I'm doing a good cup of coffee, as compared to a lousy cup of coffee. Image

The best thing about lousy coffee is that one can really appreciate the good stuff. Judging by how many varieties or blends of coffee there are, my guess is that there are more of the former yucky stuff. My bet is you have the latter, Glenn. Enjoy!

I’m watching the rest of the dog show. and drinking a mix of Creme de Cacao and Orange Vodka better known as “Orange Chocolate”. :P
Celebrating an email announcement that the 6 days of online order frustration paid off as Mrs. FSB’s evasive Black Friday product actually arrived for pickup. :D
Cheers!

Mrs. Nylon got us on the Kona coffee beans. A really nice coffee. Easy on the stomach, and I don't get the caffeine jitters, and shakes from it. Image

Awesome, Glenn. That caffeine curse can play stomach and head games for sure.

Kona, however, does bring a question for me that I’ve yet to solve; although, it’s not on my urgent list, not being a coffee snob, okay maybe a little having bought a questionably appropriate correct temperature coffee maker from one of those Seattle so called expert outlets. After years of enjoying Cuisinart’s overheated coffee, and then moving on to some’s idea of the basic bean blooming coffee maker without a heat plate to hold that later grab of Old Joe that we’ve all had to wet our lips, I miss the great home made taste of coffee hot enough to burn my lips like at McDonald’s or Timmie’s or Starbuck’s, and yet the simplification and attention does bring consistency missed by many run of the mill feature laden big brand makers IMHO.

My brother brought us back some Kona from Hawaii but, as some know, tourist or mass marketed retail goods do not always stand up to the original, and our pre-ground Kona version didn't disappoint or, at the very least, didn’t stand up to the hype. Some things are domestic quality, others are export, a totally different variety, or a shadow of the original such as the reported and rumoured to be different Starbucks on grocers’ shelves versus the brewed specific temp grind or blend at Starbucks where the lattes flow. Gotta keep the tourists and customers coming back somehow, and the price per coffee needs to appear at least value added. Add to that the expired date or any date often missing on one’s purchase. So, there can be any number of reasons why coffee, even the same, can give different results.

We grInd our own beans every morning, except when we occasionally grind a couple of pot fulls. Mrs. FSB drinks black, and the cup is hot enough; but, my double double might get tweaked with a little touch of microwave after the first cup from the carafe. My first thought of the Kona given to us, is that fresh beans might have been an improvement.

So, I fully believe Kona makes some great coffee, based on reputation; but, I also believe Kona makes some swill, and this (buyers beware) would support that theory:

https://coffeedorks.com/best-kona-coffee/

Now ya know.

If ya like that Kona Glenn, you might want to put that one high on your list. Tip a cup for me.
- Gary

Note: The Kona article attached is not intended to be an endorsement or promotion; but, as a reference it gives a pretty good overview of related
misunderstood misconceptions (not unique to Kona or coffee) and such.
