From what I've done today, I'm beginning to like Ableton a little more than Studio One. It was easier to find and do what I wanted to do. Oh, I'll keep plugging along and something will work out. It always does. :) I'm curious as to why you don't have a snow blower, Gary. When I lived in Chicago, I had a John Deere 8 HP, 6 forward gears and two reverse gears, electric start, behemoth snow blower. My neighbors loved it because I did all of their sidewalks and the big piles, from the plows, at the end of their driveways. All before they had to leave for work. I never charged them and it was fun for me. I did get some nice dinner and party invitations, though. :)

Great that you like Ableton, Marky. I also have Cubase with a fairly high learning curve. For simple things like restoring records, some noise reduction, removing scratches, and leveling, for example, Sound Forge Audio Studio (old school simple stereo with VST plugins) does the trick and I might import some guitar work to edit. I have Garage Band, and know it has a reputation, but I’ve yet to use it. I have fun with Ableton though, and I keep coming back. When that new computer comes in, hopefully on Black Friday or other similar event, I’ll probably find something else that works for me. I have a feeling Ableton will be there.

Snow blower? That’s a mighty beefy snowblower you had Marky. JD makes good stuff IMHO.

I’m lucky to have great neighbours on both sides with blowers when we get lots of snow. I’ve tried to do without so far because I might really need it a couple of times a year unlike a lawn mower that is used more often. Snow blowers are great mind you; but, it’s just one more thing to maintain. Besides, I have two sheds now. I’ll have to move out to store one of those babies. But, they rock, it’s a man thing, and gosh darn wouldn’t I look good with that blower and my toque. Hmm?

I agree, JD makes excellent equipment. That thing was a tank. It was a bit of an overkill but I bought it when I had money for such things.

Heck yeah you would look good. You, your toque and that blower would be totally killer. Very suave! Mrs. FSB would have to keep an eye on you. 8)

I'm going to finish up my coffee and work on deciding which DAW I should invest my time in. I've spent so much time on Studio One that I don't want to give up on it but it's taking me forever to get anywhere.

Recording is way more challenging than I expected. Learning a full-feature DAW with dozens of plugins is daunting. It's not just learning what everything does, it's also learning the optimal settings for everything and how to put it all together.

I'm not a quitter though and I'm looking at it as learning something new and cool. 8)

You have great taste in fashion, Marky. Yeah. I could wear my Fender shirt, and give the old ladies in the neighbourhood a rush.

Those blokes with their little sidewalk sweepers would be soooooooo jealous. :x

You’ll be just fine, Marky. I’d like to have a buck for every time I was presented new gear with restricted time to learn it. I often felt overwhelmed and soon discovered you could take a long time or a short time, but in the end you’d get it especially when you get that ”Eureka” moment.

Ya know, Marky. Some of the greatest hits used some of the simplest recording gear. Take the Guess Who’s “Shaking All Over”. That small studio was next to the one I worked in. Not a lot of equipment, and the home software today puts it to shame. Then again, Chad and the band put a lot of the Daw productions to shame.

Pete Townsend on the other hand reported that he believes, even with admittantly increased guitar sales, hiphop is the new replacement which he studies and enjoys saying that there is a close comparison from the evolution of guitar rock and hiphop. He went on to say, basically, rudimentary playing and methods of approach to music is present in both, but he believes that with guitar it has peaked and is mature per se, whereas hiphop and pop is ever changing and developing from a relative infancy.

My guess is that progression and variety can be found with Daws too. When the many versions of effects (both old and new) and other supporting developments are presented, so too will the creative juices come to center stage.

Townsend did not say the guitar is a passing fancy, only that it is fully ready and capable to use what came before whether it’s shredding, playing Jazz chords, or performing Jimi or Stevie Ray.

It’s always nice to have the tools. Just know that sometimes you only need one, and the rest are left in the box.

Thanks for your encouragement, Gary. Yes, just because I have a lot of tools doesn't mean that I have to use them all, or even know how to use all of them.

I've done a lot of reading and I'm pooped so I'm going to take a nap and then make some simple recordings. :)

Enjoy the quiet time, Glenn. Sometimes, that’s hard to find these days unless you are in a remote area where the odd plane flies overhead or the power boat streaks by.
I’m about to help getting the fresh local Thanksgiving Turkey ready. My job is to inject and massage it. Mrs. FSB’s job is to cook it, and then it’s back to work for me. I have to cut and eat it. :P
I think turkeys must have the same mother. Frozen or fresh from the store they all look the same to me.

Going to go for a long walk, then maybe watch a film, and put in some bass time.

Checking email and the news. I'm not sure if I'm going out for a walk, or not.
