Checking email and forum stuff. Maybe I'll go for a walk later, it depends. I'm also doing some laundry and other domestic crap.

I'm glad you got your flight straightened out, Gary. Here's a little something that may give you a smile:

 Thanks, Marky. This flight is so important and I’m glad too. That humour was so apropos my friend. Right on target. I appreciate it.

I went to the store to get something for dinner, and other stuff. We're suppose to get some nasty weather, with a lot of rain, and wind gusts up to 48 M.P.H., apparently. Hopefully, that would knock out the power, but if it does, we have a plan to deal with it. That means I won't be able to go out for a walk in the morning. I'm on a weird sleep schedule right now, as well.

It's about breakfast time for the dog. I still don't know what I'd like for my breakfast.

Drinking coffee and surfing the web. We had a fairly big water main break late last night near me, so they resumed working on it this morning until the front brought a batch of rain. They must have got close to finishing repairs as they turned the water back on around 11am.

I'm heading to my home studio to do some recording. I really have to get better at recording but I find Studio One is so darn complicated. I haven't used Audacity in a long time but maybe I'll give it another try. I remember it was a lot more user friendly. 8)

You know those fully loaded DAWs can be a blessing and a curse, Marky. Sometimes, I’ll use one Daw for part of a recording, and then I’ll move the recording to another to enhance or complete the project. Actually, it’s not unlike hardware that never gets used fully.

Great to have all the bells and whistles understanding and experience, but it’s time consuming. Even as a pro, the audio video gear I had at my fingertips was seldom used to the fullest degree because you either had too much equipment and responsibility or not enough time to progress before putting the gear into service or it was replaced before you got to that stage of complete control, knowledge, and experience. Besides, depending on your job, that application might have occasional use or primary use. I’ve worked with other companies’ gear on short notice too. The beauty with tape was the only change was the tape and it’s formulation. Tape decks had little (if any) learning curve amongst them, although mixers and outboard equipment has/had some curve to hurdle. Usually, but not always, it was less daunting than software installation and usage though. Now the recording process can include Daws, plug-ins, even more methods, and maybe learning a new operating system or eventually any one or all of these things individually or combined. Phew!

Production can have three basic positions requiring different talents and knowledge. Production, operations, and technical. Throw in a performer, and now you have a choice of being master or master of none. Not to say you can’t do all the positions well, but some just shine at one. Who wouldn’t want that superstar producer, engineer, or superstar performer addition? Maybe, you is one or a little bit of all or . . . :P
On one hand the production resources have become more available to many; but, easy can become complicated too if that makes any sense. The sky is the limit. I can tell you this though. Easy peasy is often welcomed even in professional studios if the application suits the performance. However you get there, Marky. I know it’ll be good.

Many years back great and bad performance was recorded into a megaphone, we had recordings on a wire, and mastering was whatever you produced in mono with a single take. We've come a long way from that even in the basic form.

However you get there, Marky. I know it’ll be good.

Break a leg, Marky.

Thanks, Gary, for your kind and insightful words. For me, it is a bit overwhelming to try to do it all. Plus, I have other things going on in my life so I can't devote unlimited hours to learning something completely new to me. Studio One and the dozens of plugins I have are complicated, at least to me they are. That's why I was thinking of a relatively simple program like Audacity. Maybe I can record in Audacity and then import it into Studio One or Ableton if I want to do more with it. Time will tell. :)

I personally like and use Ableton and know some pros who switched to Ableton from other well known Daws. The GUI looks to be old fashioned, but that may be a designed advantage, I can’t say. Unfortunately, my last plug-in (even removed) knocked Ableton out of commission so I may have to reinstall Ableton and all of the plug-ins, but I will lose my setup and a multi track song not mixed down to Master yet. yada yada. I haven’t time right now, but I may contact the plug-in group and/or Ableton for a solution.

But first, I’m going to tackle the snowfall. My first use of the shovel and scoop this season. Highways, roads, and underpasses are shut down in many areas. Power is off around the city, but not here. Ice has toppled trees, lamp posts, and I suppose power poles and lines. Our 49 foot evergreen now has bird houses neatly sitting at ground level. Relatives and friends are missing their land lines not being able to charge their cellphones. Many are not able to open garage doors (or aren’t aware of manual operation), and I know of one having a generator that can’t be moved into position or fired up because the man of the house is away at work. I heard of someone in New York using his app to open a garage door here in Winterpeg. Good plan. The garage has no power. Neither do some electric cars I imagine.

At this moment, I’m putting on my toque, faux fur lined hooded down coat, snowmobile boots, and woollies to say hello to Mother Nature in a bad mood, eh?

Aa we experienced some years back, one could lose the furnace where seasonal cold weather is the norm. I brought back My Mom’s DeLonghi remote control column heater, so as long as we have electricity that will be a welcomed addition I’m guessing.

A look around says it’s not nice
The snow storm dropped a lot of ice
So off I go to give a scoop
This Autumn crap is full of poop! :?
