I do believe I'm going to be putting down some bass tracks, either tonight, or in the next few days. It's nice to be working on some music again. 8)

I just finished recording bass tracks. All seemed to come out good, so that's that. I went ahead and soloed the Precision style pickup on my Ibanez Talman (it has a P & J pickup configuration,) since I don't have a P Bass, and I figured that's about as close as I can get to one for right now. I couldn't use my MXR Bass Preamp, because it was dead, so I'm assuming (hopefully) that it's just the battery dead on it, although it was working the last time I used it. I'll mess with it later to know for sure. It's funny, a lot of people are normally in bed around 3 AM, but up recording. Vampire schedule. :P It's OK, it's all through headphones, anyhow. It's not like I have to worry about neighbors.

Going for a long walk, to the store, then some bass time.

Looked at my MXR Bass Preamp, and changed out the battery, and it is now working. At least I don't have to worry about that, but my headphones were only working on one side, so I'll have to replace those. They weren't expensive in the first place, and I found some ones with better specs to replace them.

I'm sitting here looking out the window, watching the neighbors tree catching some wind. We had a 31 mph gust a short time ago. I'm going to feed the dog, and then figure out what the wife and I will do for our breakfast.

I took care of some domestic crap around the house, and I'll be going to the store later, and stocking up on some canned goods, and stuff like that, just in case that hurricane decides to do some damage around here. It's better to be prepared, and not do it last minute, when everyone is freaking out. It's supposed to rain, anyway, so I won't be able to go for a walk. I also might be recording tonight, since I do have another track to put bass down on, but I'm not sure. It's up to what my girlfriend is doing with that. She might not be ready for that, yet.

Just woke up. Mrs. FSB is still counting sheep and I’m about to check up on the friends here.

My guess is the worst of Dorian has reached mainland in Florida. I hope everyone is coping okay and is safe.

The last I saw there was talk of Dorian traveling as far as Nova Scotia; but, that, as usual, is uncertain. It would give you some nasty rain Paul, so stocking up is not a bad idea, I suppose. You could always do your 3am vampire disappearance.

I am wrestling with how I want to build a low foundation over pavement so as to keep critters out. Not that we.have mice, but they have been known sporadically to visit neighbouring garages with surrounding construction of infrastructure and developments stirring them up on vacant fields. We also have cats that chase them about. It’s not like we need the Pied Piper though. I have some options, but none of them are great for pavement not being level, and metal would be nice, but not cost effective for a 6x3x4 horizontal vinyl shed. My 10x10 vinyl shed has that over gravel which works very well with the extreme elements. I’m thinking I might add vinyl over wood. On the other hand, option two is to throw a cat in the shed. :P

I'm just watching some of the tress moving around, from the squall lines going through from Dorian. Not looking too bad though. Image

Just don’’t hang around if you see trees moving in from other neighbourhoods. That would catch my attention.

Went for a walk earlier tonight, and did some grocery shopping, and made dinner. I can't believe it's almost 1:30 AM here, but we did get up pretty late in the evening, with our current schedule. After tomorrow, I'm going to have to turn it around for a bit, since there's some stuff that needs to be done in the morning.

Just finishing my 1st cup of coffee. Power was out from passing TS Fernand storms. We really need the rain to last all day.
FSB, mice problems are better than rat problems-maybe! They only seek shelter that has excellent ventilation, plug all the small holes (nickel size and bigger) w/ steel wool or better yet those pot/pan cleaners w/ soap(forget the brand names). They will not chew/claw through metal, anything else is just a matter of desire on their part.

I just finished a breakfast-lunch, after getting things back into place in, and around the house, that were moved for the impending Hurricane. Goodbye Dorian.

I thought it was supposed to rain this evening, so I didn't go for my usual long walk, so I've been just playing bass and watching YouTube videos, instead.

Thanks, for the info. You are so right. I did know the steel wool trick. As much as I abhor these rodents, they are amazing. How and where they get to makes them a true survivor if they don’t face a predator. Too bad they’re such a pest, carry disease, show up when and where least expected, and not welcomed. They are full of surprise and tricky avoiding capture. Mickey Mouse they ain’t.

I’ve seen big Norway and ship rats and it’s scary how big (2 feet or so) that they can get. A mouse will run, but a rat doesn’t often back down. One of our three squirrels has taken on the same attitude where you can see it’s similarity to a rat. In this city surrounded by railways, fortunately the rats don’t venture into residential areas per se AFAIK. With all the grain cars and easy pickings, that must be why, I’ve heard their eyes shine by flashlight at night, and some are like small dogs.

I try to keep the yard clear of debris and limit tall grass, and I think the squirrel, rabbits, and birds keep the mice away. But, night time, who knows. Incidentally, I found the sticky tiles work way better than traps for mice; obviously. not so much for rats.

Here in Manitoba, we are Hydro rich. We produce more power than we need or import at peak times, and we export more than we use which is why we keep investing in it. It’s one of the things government does well with; although, rumours are the finances are not telling the whole story and private interests are in the wings. With quick turnovers for blackouts, usually within an hour, handy in -50° below, the public does well even if some don’t realize it. With historical blackouts in California and elsewhere, private power companies vary in their division of priorities as learned the hard way. I hope your power wasn’t off for long.

We lost our national petroleum company with it’s gas stations, our national railway, and our
national airlines, some time ago, to private enterprise. I believe in free enterprise except with necessities, Canada became a country with a golden railway spike to seal the deal to join the provinces. In this day and age that questionable qualifying deal is essentially broken as originally agreed upon. Travel for citizens in the World’s second largest country is prohibitive unless you're In a freight train. It is far cheaper for a trip to other countries than to travel across ours. Two airlines are close to being a monopoly, It wasn’t always that way.

Just think our ancestors didn’t worry if the lights went out and they didn’t have flight delays. In fact, I was 10 for my first flight on a DC3. Props were still more common than jets. No delays were more common before bigger and faster jets packed us in like sardines and fed us that way. You would think they’d move more passengers efficiently. Ah, ain’t progress sweet?

Rats!

Power was only out about an hour here, which is about normal for a reset. If something is damaged 4-5 hours is normal. Doesn't seem to matter how/where it comes from(nuclear, wind, etc.) if the transmission lines are maintained poorly, are getting old and are full of mixed components from different manufacturers.

Down here, the rats eat the mice.

We are about 8" short of rain this year, so far. Yesterday was the 1st significant rainfall since 11th of June, we got about a half inch. Fortunately we are getting more today, hopefully 1-2 inches but it is supposed to end by noon.

I have only spent a couple weeks in July in Alberta, Canada. I did some training at the counter terrorism training center at Suffield. We were lucky and fortunate enough to stay in Medicine Hat. I thought the Calgary airport was pretty nice/efficient. The weather was terrible(snow/high winds) for what we were doing and we hadn't planned for that aspect completely. Our logistics was complicated ground & air, international boarders, etc.
