Doing a lot of laundry, then we went shopping to buy more clothes, so I can add it to the pile to wash. :P Actually, we needed to get some other stuff, but did look around. Now, it's like 1:19 AM, and I'm now just having the chance to log in here. It's been raining all day and the humidity has been intense, but it's no worse than Florida ever was. I guess I did get my exercise besides walking, though.

Played and sang around the fire on the patio last night. Kept the stray cats out of the yard. I might do the same today to keep the squirrels and rabbits away. The birds are big fans, however, and that’s a pretty good endorsement. :P

That sounds really nice, FSB. I'm afraid if I took my guitar outside it would turn into a pretzel but I vicariously enjoyed your post.

Today is a quick follow up at a doctor then music time. I downloaded a free program named Shotcut that might be the answer to A/V mixing. I'll find out this weekend and I'll let you know how it goes.

Checking email and social media crap. I think I'm going to go for a walk later, I'm not sure. There's a free blues concert down at the park I usually go to, but it starts in 7 minutes, and goes to 7 PM. I'm not sure if I want to go down there, or not, though. I'll decide that in a few minutes.

We decided not to go, and are planning on just going for a regular walk, then to the grocery store to get dinner.

I don’t like being in the high temps with the acoustic (and to a lesser amount the Strat) either. After sundown works out best for me, but mild temperatures are always welcomed. Coming back inside to air conditioning means the guitar goes directly to the case. So far so good.

Never heard of Shotcut, Marky. Looking forward to your review.

——————————————————

Today I decided to cut the neighbour’s lawn to surprise them when they return tomorrow from vacationing in Nova Scotia. I thought, after their 1600 mile flight, cutting the lawn won’t be appealing. Okay, so much for the motivation.

First, I check my lawn mower tank. Empty. So is my gas can. Off I go to get gas. Second, I get finished cutting half the lawn, and then I hear a snap and silence !? Uh oh. Engine Zone Control Cable that controls the throttle broke. :? Third. At first I thought to vice grip the throttle to an open position, but it was awkward, and I knew I had a small screw clamp; but, after years of no use, where it was I didn’t know. Lucky for me I found it amongst my mess of tools. I managed to jury rig the throttle with only the clamp. I couldn’t turn the motor off once I pulled the starting rope; however, I finished the job. Until then their grass looked an undercut which it certainly was. Fourth. Where to get a new Engine Zone Control Cable? Tough search. Sears is no longer in Canada and Craftsman has a somewhat new identity and rebirth. I have a Honda motor on a Craftsman mower. It could have been on a Husqvarna or other. The motor has been popular for many years, and it is used by several manufacturers. That doesn’t guarantee a fit because connection at the users hands may differ by inches. Consequently, I pulled one section of the cable from the sheath it was in and taped the remaining broken wire to it to get an accurate measurement, These cables are model and brand specific and, if you can find the cable or clone, it can be delayed shipping of up to 8 weeks. You’ll want to smoke the grass before it gets that high.

Options are out there, but cost for a simple cable can be crazy with supply and demand or, perhaps, through repair for a simple job. Plus, all parts are not equal with non OEM. Exact lengths will vary. After no help from the new local Craftsman retailer and other local hardware stores amongst others, I finally found at the Big A three available compatible cables. I had to buy a packaged pair, but I got free shipping and, if ordered within 5 hours, two day delivery kicks in which is timely for the next lawn cut, reason enough to not track down Craftsman’s new Canadian contact unless choices run out. If my ordered cables don’t hold up, at least I’ll have a spare. Definitely cheaper than a new lawn mower which will come in due time. Phew! :D

You could always get one of those old fashioned, manual push mowers that are not engine powered. The one sort of positive thing about it is you could use it as a justification to have an extra cinnamon roll, since you'd definitely burn it off doing that crap. :P

 LMFO.
Actually, I’ve been talking about that and saw one on the shelf in the store yesterday. They still had the mower, but they were out of cinnamon buns . . . so it was a no sale. :P I lost weight right there on the spot.

Your lawn mower gave you a bit of a challenge but you were up to it as usual, FSB. Well done!

I just started working with Shotcut. So far I created a new "project" with one audio track and one video track. Next, I'm going to import some random audio and video, strip the audio from the imported video and then combine the two to make a new video.

Shotcut is an open source, easy to use program. There are lots of YT tutorial videos that are easily accessed using Shotcut's Help tab. So far, I'm very impressed by it and I'll let you know if it lives up to its claims. I have the feeling that it will.

Have fun, all!

Planning on going to the beach later. It's pretty hot out, so the water should be nice.
