That must have been a real treat, FSB, and it passed the all-important Mrs. FSB test. Well done, my friend! (or medium rare) :)
 Thanks, Marky. I tend to savour a lot of things that aren’t readily available. I did swear off of a one time snack of my buddy’s frog’s legs which gave me nightmares.
My first introduction (aside from dozens of cap guns) to rifles was my membership in a competitive gun club at the age of 10. Just for fun we were given a Bren gun just to show the kick as I got my shoulder bruise for the week. So, from then until my 30s my experience and military trade covered all kinds of small arms with respect.

How does this relate to venison? Well, after declining possession of my past uncle’s 1939 Luger because of law and the red tape to be brief, I decided I had to have a commemorative new 1863-1963 gold plated Winchester and, although not the best, but proven to be more than adequate for hunting, I walked across the street from work to purchase one. This would add to my outdoors enjoyment. Fishing was already maxed out.

After I saw a poor young confused clerk write up the paperwork, she sold rifles, ammo, and documents after some unqualified and demanding Europeans conned her into doing so with the dramatic customers speaking a foreign language with just enough English. My having heard them all speaking English very well when alone, I knew I didn’t want to hunt in our limited designated area amongst the Elmer Fudds, and possibly poachers, in my new home area. I didn’t want to be on the wrong end of the muzzle. Who knows if they could even aim at the target? Where I came from you might not even hear a shot let alone see another hunter, and you have to work to bag a deer. Oh, sure there are relatives to these guys as well, but they don’t gather in the woods for a convention. A good friend of mine with many years of hunting experience was spooked for weeks when another friend got drunk, pointed a gun at another friend over an argument at camp, and consequently my buddy gave up the annual sport he loved. In my teens my neighbour (a military weapons trainer and a prestige international Bisley winner for competition shooting) was killed stepping out from his 4 wheel drive as his partner shot over the roof aiming at a deer. I can’t tell you the impact that had on us all.

So, for this and lack of time available, hunting was set aside in a province that is heavily invested in the sport.

So, yes, Marky. That venison was definitely a treat. Mmmmm. :D

My father gave me my first .22 rifle when I was 10. I started hunting in my early teens and love venison. Some people demonize hunters but they don't think about how one deer can feed a small family for the winter. IMO, hunting is more humane than keeping a calf immobile in a small pen its whole life, until it becomes veal.

I'm hurting today but, if I feel better later on, I'll put in some delightful Strat time. :)

I hope you’ll feel better today, Marky.

I agree with the misunderstanding of fair play and sustainable hunting. Not only is buying farmed and process meat a far cry from hunting, but the abuses are passed onto animals and we humans. Can’t even trust an egg or cookie dough today. I’m not a good candidate to discuss veal. Milk fed veal is in my freezer. Mrs. FSB makes it for me. :P However, hunting was always a natural process before evolution, population, big profit, lucrative marketing, chemical all season fruit and veggies, test tubes, junk food, and trending amongst other changes that took over. But, in general, we are all left with choices so YMMV.

Just like I have a disdain for those who abuse angling I really have strong feelings against those that hunt without respect for both the animal or the others who are responsible hunters. There is more to hunting than ivory, a hind quarter, illegal animal trade (parts or in whole), trophys, coats, boots, zoos and marinas, and a lot more to hate and appreciate. Survival of the fittest is no more and no less than that; but, differences will always be a human equation.

Today my mind is on climate change as my tax assessment is being read with an added attachment about our newly introduced carbon credits and tax. Here’s my take:

While I applaud the desire for a better climate solution, I‘ve experienced mercury poisoned fishing, and polluted fresh and salt water. Some of that has come from industry; but, it also comes from farmed animal and plant waste product, and it’s spreading world wide with global trade. The same stuff found on your store shelves. This is a far cry from when I drank water from a stream as a kid. Sadly, kids today will seldom (if ever) have the opportunity to taste relatively safe natural water in it’s original environment should it be advantageous. Even drinking out of a hose can be hazardous. I believe water is an equal if not bigger concern that needs to be addressed before we talk of climate that, like the ozone, has some natural repair or not. Water is one of those necessities for life as we search for life far from earth. We know that we can and do survive unlivable climates here and there. We haven’t run out of options yet. But, I digress.

Note that much of the troubled populated areas are by large bodies of water. That’s easily a loud voice in favour of climate controls. But, should we stop the rain for areas of drought? Then there’s a different ironic level called fossil fuel and such.
How about those oil based plastic solar, dash, and body panels? How many activists would give up the components that make up their audio/video gear. Do we consider the plastics in the travel aircraft to experience that close to water destination or should we return to aluminum, glass, and paper components? Krazy, huh?

A conundrum, right?

We’ve been down this rocky road before. When the Aids epidemic rose it’s ugly head, arguments for and against funding came about because other longtime research was compromised in areas that teetered on reported successful prevention or, perhaps, cures. I wrote a paper for university on the very topic. It comes down to questionable priorities.

As for my tax contribution, I’d be more than willing to turn on my tap knowing that the water is safe and available to those in need whether overseas or here at home. Soft drink companies have capitalized on that profit, but not always in a good way as the story shows. Once that hurdle is made maybe I’ll reflect on the climate. I’d be much happier contributing to the abundant clean water cause before bankrolling industry and personal preference with carbon. Tough as it is to swallow, we can individually do without some of those things created with carbon pollution before we can collectively or individually do without H2O.

Each to their own. Whichever you choose to support and indulge with - hunting, fishing, veal, veggies, fruit, climate or water . . . enjoy. However, know that perfect does not exist.
Now that this blurb has run it’s course, I’m grabbing a cookie, and I ain’t giving it up. Fuggedabout it, :x

Well said, FSB.

I'm going to the hospital soon. My son was taken by ambulance and I have to be with him. I'm only spending time here because I had to take extra meds, so I can walk a little, and they haven't kicked in yet. It hasn't been a very good day, so far. Good vibes would be appreciated.

Thanks, brother. My son and I are doing better today. :) I have to get some Strat time in today. I can see it, leaned against the wall in its nice case, and it's calling me. :D

I might go out for a walk later, if it pans out to do so.

I had a bit of a boring day with paperwork involving an upcoming visit to see my 96 year old mother who, in December, moved into a Veterans care home. She was a Wren (same as a Wave) in WWII, and she qualified for a lot of lost unknown benefits including her new home. Managing affairs from a distance is a challenge; but, now that I’m on the upswing a trip is near. When I’m not using the rental car I’ll get a lot of hill walking. Probably to my favourite Irish pub (that oughta be some walk back), and I’ll likely pay a visit to our favourite incredible less commercial Japanese restaurant where delicious sushi is very much a side order, and my hotel is surrounded by Chinese and Korean restaurants including dozens of noodle houses not far from fisherman’s wharf. I guess I’ll have to change hotels after the first day or visit the gym room every morning (just to say hi!). Then I’ll head off to the free breakfast
Hey! I can’t work (out) all the time, :P

I'm going to go for a long walk, then watch a couple of films, and put in some bass time.

Thank you Paul, we are both doing much better. I'm waiting in a doctor's office right now but it is just for something routine.

Kicking back after preparing for a trip. i’ve gone from flying by the seat of my pants with just a kitbag to measuring and stuffing suitcases and baggies, and putting the puzzle together with new ever changing security regulations.

That random check before boarding gets me every time. I must have that Charles Manson look in my eye. If they pick on this old guy again I’ll show up in a coastal Speedo and a droopy belly bag coming home. (Ugly) That’ll take away their fun. Phttt! :P
