Going for a much needed walk as a mall rat today. I’ll put on a few owed steps for you Paul, because I’m taking Mrs. FSB to look for new shoes. I’m making a donation. I gotta get my points back up.
Then maybe I’ll check out the adjacent new IHOP for waffles. That’ll make up for the walk. :P

I went for a walk. I'm going to go to the store later, and also figure out what I want to do for dinner.

Went for a good brisk walk. The wind to the face was so chillin’. I thought my cheeks would fall off.

Today was special for me because for the first time in decades, and without a diet, I broke the 200 lb. mark. So, I celebrated with a homemade turkey dinner and a plain doughnut to close out a gift card.

When I got married, I weighed a slender but toned (from work and activity) 135 lbs. This body gained 30 lbs. for a total of 165 lbs. in the first few months of marriage. Fifteen years later saw me give up cold turkey two packs of smokes a day. This started my first crack at a coffee habit, and I packed the pounds on. I’m aiming for a 180 lb. goal for now because my wife likes me a little chunky and cuddly. If more is in the cards I’ll play them if it’s a good deal. Otherwise, I’ll fold. Upcoming holidays are going to challenge my goal; however, I lost weight indulging over Christmas and with celebrating the New Year . . . so one never knows. Seasonal change will get me active outdoors more so that'll help. :P

Congratulations on the weight loss. I'm going to try and pick that up again, especially since the weather is getting warmer. I kind of hit a wall with it, within the past 2 years. I did originally go full bore and lost around 90 pounds, or so, but then I just sort of stopped with it. Not to where I'm gaining any weight back, but I haven't really done jack with losing anymore. I'd still like to drop at least another 20 pounds, which I would have thought I would have done already, but sometimes life throws you a curve ball.

Thanks, Paul. I’m inspired that you did such a terrific job with your weight loss. In my case I want and need to be in better condition in case I need to have better odds in the health arena. My recovery is taking it’s time and 6 months and three years are keynotes, apparently.

I carry all my weight with my tummy and, unfortunately, my condition has two physical issues that restrict my desire to exercise it off. This is unfortunate, because I am okay with exercise and I miss a lot of activity that I used to enjoy. Obviously, age plays a part. I know others here have similar or tougher situations so I’ll leave it at that. The best I can do is the weight loss thing.

It’s always the last part of the goal that is tough, huh? Keep the faith. It’s a known fact, at least for us fellas, that we can lose a lot in the beginning and then it levels off; but, motivation is powerful. The key, at least for me, is to not restrict your intake but to manage it. I don’t do smaller portions all the time, but I do it as often as I can with comfort. Forget counting numbers and points or buying diet labeled TV dinners or shakes or misleading fat free products. Forget the chemical jungle that can lose weight. 10W motor oil has no fat, but I think you get the idea. Marketing and the food industry is a powerful thing. Did ya ever wonder why fad or trendy diets come from places like Florida and California for the most part? New York to a lesser extent. AFAIK. I agree these choices may work for some attached to a variety of costs, and often it’s not good. YMMV That’s for others, but not for me (and I was a good friend with close family and a business relationship with Weight Watchers’ regional head).

If I know I’m going to have a feast, I’ll prepare and eat less before that event. I find it beats scrimping or limiting one’s choice afterwards. Or I might eat a lot before, but then consider more about what I’ll eat. I make home meals more than eating out, and I make sure there are desserts and snacks to fall back on. I read labels until I don’t have to. I don’t limit myself but I do make trade offs all the time. I do other things, but believe me when I say I eat pretty good, in fact better, and I’ve been a gourmet cook for about 50 years, except for a brief cholesterol related hiatus. Now with all the meds I’m back to cooking with butter and all the good stuff.

I certainly can’t preach to a champ of weight loss, nor is it my wish to do so. I will tell you I had enough experience years ago and again now to say tomato and a variety of cheese sammies are my friend.

Take care my friend, and don’t give up ice cream or treats. At least we didn’t have Randy Bachman’s gastric bypass. :P
Cheers! Best of luck for all who are on their next level of weight loss.

Great job, FSB! You and Paul are inspirations to me. :) Paul, your long-term, consistent work has really paid off. FSB, Your diet has worked! That's something we have in common. I use diet to help me control my weight, too. I'm proud of you guys!

I'm going to have to run the self cleaner in the oven, so that should smell good for at least a 1/2 hour or so. :P I'm going to also watch a couple of films, and put in some bass time.

Now that my heart rate has returned to normal, it's Strat time. My son took me for a ride on open desert roads. After drifting through a 35mph, 90° curve at over 65mph he accelerated to 135mph on the straight. He didn't tell me he was going to do that.

That woulda made your hair stand up on end, Marky. Have you let go of the dash panel yet? 120 mph, easily done in my past 70s Charger, was enough for my comfort zone. One never knows when something will interfere with that speed. Talking speed and playing video in a safe zone is a whole lot different than actually doing it. I prefer a controlled environment should the opportunity arise. YMMV

I used to make car commercials for the big three and, unannounced, some dude’s car came in on a flatbed for a display. Apparently, the guy saw a commercial with a pro driver flying over a hill and going airborne. What the novice didn’t know is that the stunt car was beefed up in the overall build for the specific task, and the driver didn’t have stock seats, or typical racing seats for that matter. Glass, steering gear, fire, and a whole lot more were and are other considerations. Or not. The qualified expert sat suspended in the car. Consequently, in the new stock consumer version, the novice was sadly crushed as was the metal pancake on the mangled wheels that he was driving.
Off roading without skid plates is often just as bad in some places.

What you don’t know you don’t know.

Speed is a funny thing. It scares many but thrills many, It’s less of a mystery and challenge than yesteryear. Even 1000 HP 4 banger Volvo’s can be bricked. Britain’s SSC holds the official broken speed of sound record at 763.035 mph, 1,227.985 kph (over Mach 1). But those new electric (slot hahaha) cars, for the average guy can be screaming fast.

My guess is speed capping is inevitable in the future as major manufacturers are looking at the pros and cons of AI and speed with their current and future gas models as well.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/4/18246 ... kmh-models

Cop cars will, for the present, be exempt. Long live the rat rod, and racing boats. Those aquatic speedsters are truly crazy. :P

I am not a fan of speed limiters, even though they are easy to circumvent. My current pick up is limited to 100mph but my previous one was not. My son proved that by getting a ticket in it for doing 137mph in a 65mph zone. I didn't think my old pick up could do 137mph but that's what he was clocked, or paced, at. He is an adrenaline junky. 8)

I have a favourite lakeside restaurant on the coast where I loved to indulge in red wine sauced venison steak. The Chalet’s Chef (owner) earned a great reputation and entertained locals and celebrities alike which didn’t hurt. Not that I was a high roller, but occasions often brought me to this isolated serene gem of a longtime hideaway which, sadly, had a fire last October. He and his wife lived there and, in the middle of the night, thankfully, no one one was hurt. Sociable Chef Koffel and his wife were thinking of a very long overdue retirement, but after repair they refuse to leave their customers, and they continue to serve great meals and good times. I salute their dedication.

I mentioned that because it has been many years since I had venison. Well, the other day I stumbled across all kinds of wild and rare domestic meat while grocery shopping. Jackpot!

Not having the steak that Chef Koffel uses, and not being the cook that he is (although, I try in vain), today I made my first jalepeno venison burgers topped with jalepeno jack cheese and lime mayo sauce. A bit of a challenge; but, adding 1/3 ground pork to a drier 2/3 ground venison, I think I pulled it off.

It passed Mrs. FSB’s test and she didn’t eat venison. :D
Don’t retire yet, Chef Koffel. Your job is still secure.

That must have been a real treat, FSB, and it passed the all-important Mrs. FSB test. Well done, my friend! (or medium rare) :)
