After trying to find an Allen wrench big enough to fit the bridge (the ones for Fender/Squiers are a lot smaller, it seems, which I have a bunch for,) I adjusted the height for the Ibanez short scale to combat some of that buzzing I was getting I guess from the action being too low. That seemed to remedy it, and the action is still nice on it. 8)

Perfect, you can use the snow falling from the roof trick on them like in Grumpy Old Men. Good luck with your computer.
I don't have much planned for today. I think I'll continue my search for some nice chrome block saddles. :)

Going to try to get a walk in, and do some shopping. Apparently, we're going to get some nasty weather with some serious low temperatures on Sunday, so we'll have to deal with that. I friggin' hate winter, but at least we're half way through January already.

Well, that’s not good Ghost. We’re happy to have ya here. I believe you’re as close to good times as you are to bad ones.

I remember missing my father with my growing up when (in the 50s) he’d be away serving the country for as much as 6 months. Happy times were always looked forward to when he returned only to see him leave for another extended trip. Would it have been better to have the whole thing my way? Maybe. But, I didn’t dwell on it as a kid, and that’s good because I didn’t realize the benefits outweighed the downside. I certainly couldn’t expect the nitwits in the world to change just because I wanted my dad at the next ball game.

I had a terrific life in the 60s unless I thought of the scary ICBMs, the possibility of going to ‘Nam, and the dangerous hidden submarine beneath me.

The 70s and 80s and halfway into the 90s were prosperous, but sacrifices were made working crazy shifts and long hours 24/7 on call indoors and in the frigid outdoors. Then one company I worked for saw a 6 month strike for regularly scheduled split shifts (in at 8am to 2pm, back at 10pm til 12 midnight and back to start it all over). It was the last North American company of it’s sort to practice that. A landmark court case ended it for good from Mexico to Canada. I got married two days into the strike with the company’s blessing of holiday pay at the back door. That was a good thing amongst the bad. Headed west in the mid 80s for a 3 month arbitration upon my hiring because the management introduced me to a grievance that I was not wary of or involved with other than the outcome. If that wasn’t enough, with a mutual agreement with management and the griever, 10 years later the company was sold and I lost the crew and my job. Meanwhile, my industry was downsizing and closing across the country due to technology and changing from entertainment to centralized information. I went back to University only to find job hiring frozen as almagamation and downsizing was the trend. Job markets dwindled. After doing two jobs part time to meet ends, another job for a few months pulled out of Canada within a year after I joined them. This caused a cross border government legal matter for lost wages. I finally made a daily drive for a day job out of town. When commission sales were good we did just okay. After a few years, we made arrangements to return to the prairies for family. The out of town owner who became a friend, offered me an unexpected general management job and, as a surprise, I was presented a free all expenses manufacturer paid 5 Star Mexican holiday for two should I have stayed. Consequently, the job and possibly the trip were passed on to another only because a commitment had been made for both of us, and my wife had a new job transfer.

Got here and my job choices were slim at best. Too many government sponsored candidates in a weak small market added to the problem. My trade was being torn apart locally.
For other jobs my experience and education didn’t work in my favour. One company I joined here got sold and one big international player where I worked closed part of their operations without me. I believe this was an ownership change too. I took early retirement after I weighed the advantages. (Notice I said advantages?).

This year I almost bit the bullet. I was lucky, and even though I’m not the same as I once was, I’m elated to even be here to enjoy the others around me, including those here in the Forum.

As for my lucrative years, they weren’t without sacrifices and, although there were terrific experiences, there was also neglect, poorly managed penciling, ill prepared organization, abuse and politics, family ownership inheritance and blunders, and sometimes pain. On the other hand, I know that’s often the game at other’s expense. I rolled with it the best I could. Seems like I couldn’t get fired no matter what because the companies folded or I left. I’m glad to say goodbye to the folly. Too bad I couldn’t take the pay check with me.
It took awhile before I realized the priorities included a better lifestyle with or without the buying power. It was my conscious choice to not make a major move out of the country, and also to refrain from past and future sacrifices required to work in movies which was talked of. I believe it’s a young person’s, or an established long timer’s, or a single person’s best fit. Glamour comes at a cost with full time commitment. Besides, there’s always the new kid on the block waiting to be the next C.B. YMMV. I look at the good side, grasp the great side, and share it. Any of the bad is behind me, and I’m better prepared to tackle the worst ahead. I feel pretty confident knowing that I’ve been in deep murky waters with sharks many times before, and each time I’ve emerged because I decided to be a survivor,

I used to fear dying; but, even as recent as my operation, I felt that I was okay with it knowing all the good that my life and others has/have given me. I’m saddened by children who never have or will get an equal opportunity; but, I’m glad to say. there will always be some who will rise to the top from sheer determination. I am also curious to know what’s on the other side, whatever that may or may not be. I have a lot of questions. Regardless, I’m not in any hurry to make that journey. Too many things in my bucket list.

One is to find humour in politics. After all, it’s a time waster trying to think we can change the zoo. It’s more fun to look at the animals in the zoo and, rather than jump when the lion roars, we should laugh at those monkeys.
I also need to not take things so seriously. Reality works both ways. Nobody has the copyright on that. :P
Example: You can choose to laugh or boo at SNL. You can choose to laugh or boo the news. If you shut both off you’ll face reality vague as it is today.
Finally, things can always be better even when they’re great, and yet after all those downers and fears I’m still here. Having a party tonight to celebrate. What were those problems? I can’t remember.

I hope this cheers you up, ghost_of_strings. :D

Note: I’m not alone here and no sympathy is required. It is said that every man is the architect of his fortune. Perhaps. Everyone has their own story, and each story speaks to us on a personal level. This is one, and I wish a happy ending for all of your stories. Apologies for the wordy post.

Today is my birthday, but instead of celebrating my birthday, I'm celebrating the lives of people that have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, or their community.

Don't mean to trivialize whatever you're feeling, or why you're feeling that way.

When I'm feeling bad, I play sad songs. It makes me feel better. Don't know why. Perhaps it is nothing more than a good man feeling bad.

Regards,
vinyl

I'm doing laundry, and getting ready for some nasty weather tomorrow. Hopefully, the power will stay on, it's going down to 8 degrees, with a wind chill of -10 degrees, with snow, freezing rain, and sleet. I don't think we're suppose to get too much snow around here, though. Wind speeds up to 31 MPH. Yeah, it's winter in Rhode Island. Hey, at least we're half way through January, and this was pretty much the first snow we've gotten here. It could be worse, and has been.

Happy birthday! You know, I do the same thing. I try to take that negative energy and try to do something creative, or constructive with it. I know it's not always an easy thing to do, though.

Last day of drying today before wet sanding and polishing. I'm really glad there's football and the B-J auction on TV to distract me or I would probably have jumped the gun a little and already finished most of it.
When I removed the tape from the front, I found a few minor issues along the face side of the binding that may need a light shellac reapplication. I'll have to wait and see after the binding gets scraped. Otherwise very pleased w/ the overall look. Hopefully the assembly goes well and I'll be playing it in a few more days.

Great followup, vinyl. Belated Happy Birthday. We had a party last night so I dedicate some of the celebrating on your behalf. I hope you had a great one. :D

Keeping the calorie count down is difficult these past two days; but, I'm being conservative about it. Fried chicken, Manicotti, Pizza, Orange creamsicle cake yesterday, and guess what's leftover? Not the Caesar salad (how did that show up?). Some stuff was frozen, but . . . At least I rocked out with the Strat and did some drumming for a little 8 year old girl who sat on my knee so I could show her how she could rock out like she asked. I think I lost more calories lifting her than playing. Perhaps, that's why I'm hooped and kicking back today.

Fortunately, we just got a lot of rain last night, and the wind dried up everything, so we don't have to worry about any ice on the walkways, etc. It's still going to be brutally cold, with some wind, so I'm not going to be able to go out for a walk, but we'll have to drive the car to keep the battery charged up. My girlfriend has some premastered versions of the songs for the next EP that I burned on CD, so we'll listen to that in the car and see what needs anything done, if it does. It's in the final mixing phase, now. It will probably go to mastering this coming week.
