I just finished doing a pretty good session on the Jazz. As much as I like the Rickenbacker 4003, my Fender Jazz is the Alpha dog, no two ways about it.

I’m about to check Old Faithful on our boulevard. After umpteen “Hey did ya know?” knocks on the door, and an earlier discovery that we have a man made geysar bubbling a few inches above ground, we were told by the city that they have a broken water line. Fortunately, it is at their expense but, unfortunately, it means digging the boulevard for the second time in a year because they gave us a new road last summer.
The weather here has caused similar issues that are even worse across the city so we are on the list as they say. Meanwhile, our dry (lack of rain) lawn gets a good soaking. We can only hope it sticks to the surrounding lawns and not the family room. I don’t think the wall to wall carpet with drums and guitar gear would take too kindly to that. :?
Gotta go check Young Faithful.

Good luck with that, FSB. I hope they won't wake you up too early tomorrow.

I'm going upstairs to play my Player through a real amp. Maybe I'll do some recording too. 8)

Going to go for a walk, and get my Pinkberry fix. :P Them and their 50% off coupons. :P

I have no Pinkberries. No chocolate, no ice cream, no Jello.   So, I’ll just have to go to the mic or guitar. Both need my attention and I need practice. Maybe, my taste for music will help me survive, :P
Betcha that Pinkberry is good, Paul. I wonder how long it would take me to walk there and try one? It didn’t take me long to forget about the walk; although, I probably could use that too.

Well, the Canada border from here is around 6 hours, but that's for Montreal. So unless you're already there, you'd have to tack on whatever additional mileage to that. As for walking, you'd probably have to invest in a few pairs of walking shoes, I'm sure. :P Seriously though, there was a guy that walked all of the way across the US, from east coast to west coast, I think to lose weight, or something of that nature. Maybe it was to see if he could do it. I'd have to dig up the news article about it, if I can still find it, but I'm sure that took a while.

I could see that fella walking from Florida to California, but mountain ranges, hot deserts, swamp lands, and a whole lot more would be a challenge for sure. The U.S.A. is quite a bit more complicated for that trek than here. It’s done from time to time here in a larger country, and it presents challenges, but not like in your country. In fact amputees have become famous fighting a cause on the road trip from coast to coast, approximately 3,365 miles from end to end.

I think I could have made it to the Pinkberrys if I had started in 1960, but if they hadn’t been popular back then I would have had a delayed start and I’d still be on the road, maybe as far as Montreal with a smoked beef sandwich and poutine. :P

I've heard about poutine, but I've never got to try it. The funny thing is on my father's side, they actually originate from around that part of Canada, Quebec, or thereabouts, then migrated down to New England so many generations ago. So I'm part Canuck. My last name is LaFleur (sometimes spelled with a lower case "F," depending on the family member, but that's how I've always done it,) which is probably as common as Smith around those parts. I don't think I'm related to the hockey player, Guy, though. :P

Well, lookee thar’. LaFleur is a good strong French Canadian name. You probably have maple syrup, and poutine gravy in your blood, Paul. I bet if you laced up those skates you would glide like the wind. Perhaps, that’ll help ease up on those long walks of yours. No wonder you have a toque. All you need now is a Hudson’s Bay blanket coat, a sash, and snowshoes to face the winter mon ami. :D

Yeah, I'm also part Russian and Ukrainian, but I still think winter sucks, even though you'd think I'd be genetically adapted to such a thing. I guess living in Florida from the time I was 6 until 31 changed all of that. :P

My girlfriend and I were jamming on an a cappella with bass guitar (I played the Ibanez through the Fender Rumble 350 combo) on the song "I Who Have Nothing," which was sung by both Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey, albeit not together. Our version is sort of a cross between those two vocally, but I'm not playing either bass part, but some bastardization of the general feel of all of the instruments on the song, and I'm playing high on the neck. I think either tomorrow, or maybe tonight, we're going to video tape it, probably sitting in our office. She has a little Fender Passport amp that she sings through, as well.

That sounds great, Paul. It's wonderful that you and your girlfriend jam together. My ex-wife plays piano and sings beautifully but I could never get her to jam with me. Enjoy it, my friend!

I'm still trying to figure out this whole recording thing. I've made some beginner recordings but that's all so far. I haven't even decided on which software to use. I have the most time and money invested in Studio One 3.5 but I'm not crazy about it. I tried the free version of Pro Tools and liked it but could never get it to work right with my plugins, etc. I don't know why but it must be something I'm doing wrong because it is such a popular DAW that it must be good. I have Ableton Live 9 Lite and that seems user friendly and has some nice MIDI controllers dedicated to it. The free upgrade to Ableton Live 10 Lite comes out this month so I'll check that out. I have Audacity too but haven't spent much time with it.

Going back to Studio One, I have too many plugins that do the same things. I don't know which ones are better than the others and it's becoming an exercise in futility. I've spent so much time on this and all I want to do is record, mix and master. Sounds simple to me, but it isn't. Ugh! Thanks for letting me vent.

Yeah, I know dealing with recording software can be a huge pain in the arse to figure out. It's so much easier just to plug in and play, but I suppose that's something you have to deal with, if you want to be on recordings. I still have an old school Tascam 4-track, but I think it needs to be repaired. The last time I tried to use it, a few years ago, the tape kept stopping. I know it's not something that's for professional recordings, unless you're into lo-fi stuff, and for some odd reason, cassettes have come back in popularity to some degree, but it's great for just throwing down some song ideas.

I finally finished moving furniture in the family room, for the new couch that the wife wanted to get for in there. The old couch was really shot anyway. I'm not complaining. I managed to get a pretty nice leather recliner for in there too.

I got back recently from a long walk, and grocery store trip to get something for dinner. Now, I'm going to finish watching a movie, and play on the violin bass some.
