You might as well take advantage of the outdoor weather while you still can. I know how friggin' cold it can get there.

You got that right, Paul. Nothing like freezin’ your arse off with frostbite nippin’ at your fingers while scrapin’ windows so you can drive home with your toque after a tiring day of late shift or running out of smokes. I gave all that up some time ago. Now it’s just when I go visiting. :D
I do miss the slow speed of the frozen cassettes though. Haha
As for now I just received hot poached eggs and home made hash browns in a warm bed while watching music videos. I think I’ll stay here till next year. Just kidding. It’s pay back time for my better half.

I want to learn some new songs. I've been in a rut playing the same old stuff. I'm looking for something happy and upbeat and not the blues that I usually play. :)

That's the thing. I could $@!&* about the humidity that's been hitting here the past week or so, but I know the winter is a lot worse. I think I'd rather sweat a little bit then freeze. All in all, it hasn't hit over 90 degrees here, and we're already almost in the middle of August. I'm just hoping we'll have a decent fall this year. Last year sucked because of the hurricanes and all of that weather stripped the trees bare, and we didn't have much fall color going on. It also got a lot colder sooner, as well. Last winter was pretty rough, for these parts, at least. I had to check and see if I was still in the right country and not see if there were red and white flags with maple leafs flying outside. :P

I can relate to that. That's why I'll go all over the place with music genres. The problem with that, is I'll get overwhelmed and then I don't know what I even want to listen to.

Changing out what's for dinner. We're having pork chops, because I forgot to buy hotdog buns. Image

Well, you could always cut up the hotdogs and mix them with some canned beans for beenie weenies. :P Man, I haven't made those in ages. That, or do the same with macaroni and cheese. Of course, a ton of hot sauce is mandatory for either, because I'm a freak like that. :P

Paul about the winter:

The thing is we do get the frigid weather; but:

• We have plenty of snow removal gear at a moment’s notice with well trained crews to handle it quickly (usually overnight).

• Our cars have plugs to work an in car heater that can warm up the inside of the car in about an hour or two on the average.

We also have a block heater to keep the engine warm for start up and to make it quicker to heat the car up.

• In severe weather we have battery blankets that plug in and it’s pretty common for jumper cables to be found for jump starting a dead battery with another car.

•Most cars now have heated seats.

• Our electrical grid here is excellent with all the dams and what not being a large supplier of energy to outside of the province. Power outages seldom occur. Where I live it’s usually within a half hour for power to return. Several hours can happen; but, in extreme storms it may be longer. Because of the cold, we benefit from extremely quick service, although there are exceptions. It’s definitely better than the eastern seaboard and, in some cases, the west coast. Geography and age of the providers’ infrastructure also have some bearing.

• Bus shelters are mostly heated.

• This is a city that knows how to share resources amongst government, businesses, and people when bad weather takes over.

• I’ve experienced Atlantic winters and, aside from the cold, they can be more brutal with being wet and with the ice storms. Your snow gets crusty layers that can add to high piles where ours usually drifts and is fairly easy to remove, except for that which the plows distribute in front of your driveway when you least expect it. #%*+!

•Snow removal in the east is getting better, but too many states look at snow removal as a temporary or occasional need.

We don’t get a grasp on that here. Yes, you have a large population, but mostly small states. Thst compares to our small population and large provinces. A large population and a small state should give you lots of standby removal gear. We budget for each year’s removal and, if not used, it’s a bonus not a disability. It certainly would help to save money and lives when those huge traffic jams and pileups occur. For example, Toronto seems to do an incredible job on a Great Lake frontage.

•Ice on the eyelids and wet pants and damp gloves are a rarity here. Besides, we have lots of fashionable warm weather gear to choose from and we are climatized. Frostbite is possible. Toques are standard affair.

•And here in the prairies we mostly have no hills to slide on or into something; although, fender benders do occur.

• Cellphones have reduced the stress of winter by a kazillion fold. No more hiking in -40° below to find the nearest gas station is closed and there is no phone booth. Kids are so lucky today. They wouldn’t understand how we struggled before with winter.

One thing that hasn’t changed is you can keep your preferred beverage cold by leaving it outside.
Oh. One other thing. If we need a ride we thumb a ride with one of the many Zambonis. :P

The funny thing about all of this, is right now, I'm sitting in my office with the windows open and a fan on high (we only have AC in the bedroom, which is critical, because it's in the attic/3rd floor level, and it can get very hot up there, at dangerous levels, since heat rises,) and then in the very same room I'll be freezing my arse off, with a space heater, because the radiator in the room doesn't do a hell of a lot. The reason is there is a drafty double door that goes out to the back deck, and old windows, probably from 1882, when the house was built. At least the rest of the house isn't like that, or as bad.

Anyway, I did my long walk today, since it didn't rain, and then I spent quite a few hours on the bass and even put in some guitar time, too. Now, I'm just listening to some Rolling Stones and checking email.

I know the windows you mean, Paul. They’re probably like the ones we had on the coast in the 100+ year old house. No a/c there either, but not as hot in the summer back then. It is now.

Hope you found some happy music, Marky, and that you made friends with your pork chops, Glenn. Think of the piggie that provided them.

I think it would be cool to live in a house that old, Paul. If I lived there, I'd be interested in learning who lived there before me and all of the changes the neighborhood went through since it was built. 8) I'm getting ready for some breakfast and then Strat time. I bought an inexpensive all-in-one HP printer that will be here Wednesday so no fooling around with the laptop today. Just fun. :D

Worked on some computer things, had my milk and cookies, and now it’s time for a little catchup on the sleep. Going to throw around some Zzs with a short afternoon nap.

Checking email and all of that stuff. It's raining right now, so going for a walk is out, unless it stops. Will probably go to the gym, instead.
