My girlfriend is going to be interviewed on the local AM station for Newport, tomorrow afternoon, and I'm going to videotape it for her social media pages. I still need to hook up the new Fender cab and see how it sounds, and check to see if it's defective, or not. It looks in mint condition, even though it was sold as a "minor blemish" model. The only thing I can tell was the box was opened and taped back up again. That's AMS, for you. You can get great deals with them from that.
I trust the interview went well for you and Jenn, Paul. Lots of talent there, so I’m sure it did.

I also hope the cab proved to be what you expected.

Today, I am doing a plethora of music related considerations. I have only 70 more presets to tweak to my final preference on the Mustang IV. Then I get to tweak harmonies and narrow down program favourites, etc. from a list of 500 presets on the TCH Vocal/Guitar pedal (splitting usage between acoustic/electric and the Strat).

Until I get a programmable mult-track digital mixer on the list of things in my want list (a few steps down on my priority list), I still need to make adjustments with volume. EQ, and Lexicon EFXs to a two track board going to a DAW where I may be able to futz with a software compressor (unlikely) until the new mixer takes over in that department. If all that isn’t enough to choose from, I have a couple of backing tracks to add vocals to. I guess it all depends on my stamina and laziness accordingly.

It appears that life doesn’t always get to be plug and play.
Where’s my tape deck?

Meanwhile, I have just been handed salty Sweet Potato chips and a glass of red vino which I haven’t been able to have for a time. :D

I know what you mean with where's the tape deck. Some of this programming stuff makes you feel like you have to go back to school, sometimes. :P If anything, it's really a matter of patience to deal with it. The problem with that is when you don't have any, and you just want to play and mess around with this stuff. Speaking of tape, we know a dude in Maine that has started up a fully old school analog recording studio that we've had plans to do some recording to vinyl. Not sure when that will be, but it will be pretty cool thing when it happens, I think. It's not cheap pressing records, though.

This return to vinyl is pretty cool.

In my case time is not my friend, and production time needs to be minimized learning and maximimized doing; unfortunately, software companies like to always move forward with improvements. Sometimes, they are not improvements and marketing is involved telling us how great it now is.

As a former technical director years of auditioning and using technology tells me that with engineers and operators, while they complement each other, a lot of this stuff is far more complicated than it needs to be and it is often not ready for consumption that hooks you into playing the upgrade and addition game. Some of the beauty is skin deep.

With tape it is the mind that does the work,. Tape is quick, easy peasy, and mature. It also, for all it’s faults, gave us some of the best recordings in history. Mind you inventive tape savvy producers helped.
Digital convenience and resources can be a beautiful thing, however - when it works. I use digital for all the same reasons others do, and it’s terrific that one can own equipment with plugins that would typically be out of reach as hardware.

It’s too bad learning and setups can take a long time. It doesn’t have to. and it will improve. Companies should use more video manuals instead of relying on public to maybe fill that void. IMHO. It would clarify and speed up the process from the manufacturers base.

Discrete multi-track CD audio recorders would have been nice, but that has passed on.

This brings us to records. Some very cool records have enhanced our lives, and it is very cool that you get to experience that first hand, Paul.

Here’s an article (albeit 4 years old) that you might find interesting:

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report- ... e22078532/

I think population and distribution made the difference here, Paul. Enjoy your recording experience with vinyl. Good on ya, bro’. :D
FSB

The irony: When that analog recording is complete you might find it sounds like digital. After all digital is trying to emulate tubes and analog including tape and records. (Flutter, noise, scratches, and all).

We picked up some dinner at this local chicken joint tonight, and they had an "Centipede" arcade game from way back in the day in there. I haven't seen one of those, much less played it in at least over 30 years. Needless to say, I was really rusty at playing that thing. I was still a teenager when I last got 4 quarters change for a dollar. :P

I do love the sound of the bass recorded on analog. I remember hearing that when I used to have all of the Led Zeppelin records (and a bunch of other stuff) a long time ago in Florida. Unfortunately, I no longer have any of that stuff. Maybe I'll be able to get it again, someday.

Thanks for the article. Ironically enough, I currently don't even have a record player. I'd like to get one, though.

I just assembled a shoe rack that we bought last night, and did some straightening around the house. The shoe rack has become a necessity, since the foyer is starting to look like a DSW (Designer Show Warehouse) between my girlfriend and I's collection built up. :P

Dealing with a cold. It figures I'd get sick two days before a gig. As long as I don't get worse (I'm keeping on top of it,) I'll pull it off.

I went to bed at 3 and got up at noon so I'm just getting my day started with some coffee and OJ. I am going to play for awhile and maybe record something. Should be a fun afternoon. :)

Hope your cold is better, Paul.

Sounds like a fun day, Marky.

Today I’ll head out to my favourite nephew’s to celebrate his 50th. Should be interesting for me. I know I’ll have a good time, because, against my wishes, I’m doing a second round of drugs  Lucky me, I get to try some new non alchoholic beer that I grabbed. I’m no heavy drinker (I left that in my 20s), but I have my preferences, and besides sailors can hold their own without so much as a buzz. That drunken sailor must have been written by a lyricist that happened to meet some of the few that gave us a bad reputation. My cousin and I, unlike in America’s dry Navy, were raised on daily 11am government supplied 180 proof pussers’ rum straight up and that could prove the song and reputation questionable . If I don’t like the near beer I’ll grab a soft drink tonight. Whoo Hoo!

Cheers!
FSB

Incidentally, yesterday I found a soft drink bottle from a company established in 1891. It was Black Cherry soda. I haven’t had that since I was a kid so needless to say it came home with me. :D

That sounds like a lot of fun, FSB. I hope you had a good time. I played for a while and then took a nap. It was a lazy day for me.

I survived and had a good time thanks, Marky. Lazy days are always a welcome change, and if yours was a good one, then that’s a bonus.:D

We have some snow, but not a lot. That is about to change over the next couple of days getting it from the south and north of us here in Manitoba. Our province wide annual flooding is yet to be determined, but that is mostly outside the major towns and cities. We have a giant floodway (ditch) with flood gates to direct excess water on a controlled basis to one of our large lakes. It works pretty good as long as you aren’t lakeside. Floods have become an expected event on a regular basis here. Never a welcomed guest at one’s home that’s for sure.

Stay safe and best to all affected in the east.

Nasty weather rip through here today. Just rain (no snow for us, fortunately) and a lot of strong wind. Also fortunate is we didn't lose power, or at least so far, but I've heard that the whole thing is supposed to stop about an hour from when I'm writing this. From what I can hear, the wind does sound a little calmer outside. It was pretty rough when we went out to go get some dinner.

I've already got my stage wear picked out for tomorrow's gig, and it looks like the weather will be OK. I still have a little bit of a cold, or whatever the hell is wrong with me, but I'm feeling OK. I've been on top of it with various remedies, and taking it easy. I haven't felt weak at all, so maybe I didn't get hit too hard with it, or the fact I've been taking care of myself by various means have kept it at bay.

I've been so busy prepping for this gig, I've had barely any time for my usual social media, which that isn't a bad thing. I haven't even had time to listen to music, unless it's in the car go to and from somewhere. I'm debating now whether I should go over the set with my bass and see if I need to practice the set some more with the practice recordings. I think I got it all, and I shouldn't worry about it.
