Marky, your suggestion of a laptop for the recording room certainly has merits. Last night I watched the CEO of Intel speaking of the major vulnerability and temporary fix with decades of computer chips. Word out is that billions of computers are affected.

Although, Intel takes the blame, Intel is not the only chip maker involved because the design is used by others. That said, look for deals on the existing gear, or changes to come. Also, look out for fraudulent and recycled chips (like that will be easy).

LG’s robot demo failed at the CES. Apple is being raked over the coals for several reasons, and others are not having a much better time supporting the needs of geeks.

I can ride it out until the latest greatest comes to a better place. I need a new phone too, but as with the other gear, it works without losing money on newer problems. When a great deal comes along and/or the older gear runs it’s course, I’m sure I’ll benefit until the next computer fiasco which can’t be too far away, besides there is a Confiicker worm (2009) that sits in many computers and experts still don’t know it’s purpose so I won’t bother losing sleep over it.
Does anyone remember when we cared less about computer security and anti-virus programs?

Those were the days when our computers ran slower at full speed than the arguments against today’s Apple battery slow down with or without multi tasking. Those crazy dial up days were an adventure in carelessness and multiple reinstalls. Wozny characters were everywhere.

The sock trick would likely work as shown for guitar stands and hangers. You’ll want to have a bone ugly axe though. Shouldn’t be too hard to find. :P
The problem (as pointed out by some manufacturers) is not so much the foam/rubber which may be tested, but the finishes, such as natural, oiled, stained, and especially the nitrocellulose lacquer. There are a variety of nitrocellulose compositions so it is difficult to support them all. Thin modern polyurethane is, however, said to not be a problem with hangers and stands that are tested for such use.

None of this changes the music though. :D

Two of my guitars have the nitro finish so I am extra careful with them. I just thought I would pass that along to avoid a potential problem for Paul or others.

Absolutely. Gotta help to keep those axes in good condition ‘cause we luvs them here. :D
I only brought the option up because I seem to be good at losing socks. Now I know where they went.

FSB - I think a laptop is a very affordable option today and could be a good way for you to go. I bought an HP laptop for under $300.00 a few years ago and it still works great. It has plenty of power in quad processors but I did upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8 GB. IMHO, you can't go wrong with something like that.

Paul - That guitar stand looks really nice and On-Stage is a good brand. The only caution I have is that I have heard that certain padding can affect the finish of a guitar over time. I'm not sure what "Velveteen rubber padding" is but I know people who have had their Gibson's nitro finish marred by contacting the padding. Now those people put a cleaning cloth or a sock between their guitar and the padding.

Interesting, I never heard about that before. I don't think I have any instruments that have the nitro finish, if that's the factor involving that issue. I know the guitar stands I currently have haven't effected anything, that I've noticed, at least.

Managed to finally go for a walk tonight. Didn't really get anything else done today that I was planning on, but that's OK, tomorrow is another day. Well, technically it's another day right now, but I'm on a screwed up schedule that I'm trying to turn around in the next couple of days.

Wrestling with a cold, consistent coughing, sneezing, the lot. I’m not able to take much medication, and antibiotics are not an option, except for one (which is hopefully never).

I’ve lucked out two years in a row, but I have an uncanny habit of coming down with something just as a snowfall is expected around this time of year. There must be a bag of bones or a voodoo doll chasing me around.
Meanwhile, some oatmeal porridge and hot lemon and honey are keeping me company. Later, I’ll have a little liqueur (at least there won’t be any restriction from those antibiotics)
Maybe, I’ll amuse myself and write a blues song. if the inspiration hits me. :P
Things aren’t so bad. I can suck up to Mrs. FSB for sympathy. :D
Cheers!

Sorry you're not feeling well, FSB. It's that time of year alright. I'm sure Mrs. FSB will take good care of you so hang in there my friend. :)

I hope you feel better soon. You know, if you like it, and can handle it, something with hot peppers in it, like Vietnamese pho, does a good job of clearing out your head when you have a cold. Maybe even just chicken soup with something spicy in it, as well. At least, that's what's worked for me in the past.

My girlfriend and I did some rearranging and putting away our clothes when we got up earlier, in the now designated wardrobe room/walk in closet/whatever you want to call it, so all that's left is to situate where the studio was and set up my amp in there to have a rehearsal room, and recording studio when need be for vocals, etc.

We probably won't be able to get to it until the next few days, because we're going to see her grandmother in another city in the state, and will be doing some stuff with her, probably more shopping. Her grandmother wanted to go to this shoe store, which so happens carries a lot of wide width shoes, so maybe I can score some sort of Beatle boots, which would be nice for stage wear, and all of that. It's been quite a number of years since I've had a nice pair of boots.

Thanks, for the good vibes Marky and Paul. I appreciate it.

I just woke up and, like you Paul, my routine is kinda wanky. Thankfully, there’s a good PBS show on about the Black Hole.

As for chicken soup, I found Chicken Pot Pie soup. Add some crackers and pepper, and it’s awesome. IMHO. I don’t know if it works, but dang it tastes good. Failing that, Mrs. FSB used to make home made chicken noodle soup from her grandmother’s/mother’s family recipe. It was a standard when the flu came around. We found a similar hand made product at the Jewish deli in the neighbourhood, although I haven’t had it for some time. Thanks, for the reminder. Wor wonton soup seems to help a little too (depending where you get it). Vietnamese pho and spicy peppers sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the tip. If I’m really sluggish I might kick back with a milkshake. I learned that from a crew member who was always dragging his butt into work at an ungodly call in hour in the early morning.

Looks like the sound room and living space is coming along good, Paul. Hope you score on those Beatle boots. We be talking Rock and Roll fashion here.
And yes, Marky, Mrs. FSB spoils me. I try to return the favour, but it’s hard to keep up. She worries too much. Making her laugh is a hobby of mine.

Later gators

It's been pouring rain here today, and 56 degrees, so go figure it would be warm, but pouring rain so I couldn't go for a walk. So instead, we went to Warwick and to the mall there. I never did get any boots yet, but I did score a cool pair of trousers. We didn't go to the shoe store, since there is supposed to be a big sale there in the next few weeks, or month, whenever it is, so we'll go then. I didn't find anything at the mall, show wise.

Lately I've been playing with a couple of new toys and it's been quite enjoyable.

A little back story:
I have the iPhone 6 Plus and I used it to take some video at a Foreigner concert recently and also at the Roger Waters show a month later.
The results were not very impressive.
Pretty jumpy/shakey and not close enough, ie: not enough zoom.

I decided the next concert I will do better and began researching the options.
I acquired the Exolens 2x Telephoto lens (with Zeiss optics) and the OSMO Mobile gimble stabilizer.
I had to find a hunk of steel to hang on the side of the OSMO to counter the weight of the lens.
It was a pretty ugly workaround but I wanted to test the setup.
I now have a better counterweight on order from Amazon made by Moment.
I suspect it may require some modification due to a difference in weight between the Moment lens and the Zeiss but it will at least be more viable than a dangling chunk of 1/8" x 1/2" flatbar with a U-bend.

I gotta say, this is pretty cool technology.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That camera gear should be pretty cool, Matt. I was talking with some guys I used to work with and they told me that their station has been thinking about dropping the more expensive gear for news shoots, and going to cell phones totally. I’m not so sure about that, but it looks to be the way that they and others are going. :P

I'm getting ready to go to Walmart to pick up groceries. I order them online and pick them up the next day. They load up my pickup and everything. I don't even have to get out. My son will bring them in. Pretty easy.
