My guess is that you at least have a gig bag for it? I didn’t buy cases for my sixties’ traps, but throughout the years they survived okay somehow (even through two major moves). The English nickel plate held up better than the finish on my lightly scratched chrome of my Rogers Dynasonic snare for which I wish I had at least gotten a soft case. They and the patina Zildjians have that vintage character (and although, I wouldn’t mind a new drum set, guitars and related now have priority). Since the Strat has that ‘58/‘59 vibe it’s a pretty good match and that has a case. :P

The acoustic stays in a gig bag with humidity packs, because I have less than desirable humidity in the home and it’s super dry on the prairies. On the coast my twelve string never saw a case.

Getting ready to jam tonight - practicing some bluesy Christmas tunes.

English is a crazy language. Some would take the above statement as being sad, but I dig it.

I don't have anything for it, and they didn't have a gig bag offered for it where I got it. It's a short scale, so your average bass bag would be too big for it, plus it's a violin shape, with an arch top, so it's a little thicker size, than your typical Precision, or Jazz Bass.

I did some adjusting to my violin bass, by lowering the bridge the best I could (it's one of those wooden bridges that are typically on archtop guitars, so there isn't a hell of a lot you can do with it,) and tweaked the truss rod to straighten it out a tiny bit. I had originally messed with it, because it developed a buzz on the 1st frets on the neck, but I think in the process, it made the action a tad bit high. So now, everything seems to be set pretty good, with nice action, and I was playing around with it tonight for a couple of hours through the Fender Rumble 350 combo. It sounded pretty good, and I didn't even touch the Precision Bass, at all, or the Jazz. That's how good that thing is playing now. I really do need to get a case for it, but $$$...

Nice work, Paul.

Thanks. It's pretty much like having an acoustic instrument, to where you don't have a lot of option for adjustments, unless you know what the hell you're doing, which I almost don't with that setup, so I guess I got lucky with it. I think the next time I get a semi acoustic bass, I might go for something with a fixed, fully adjustable bridge, like one of those Epiphone Jack Casady models, or similar style. The trade off would be that it would have a center block in them and they wouldn't be full hollow body. Then again, semi hollow bodies do have a similar tonality, plus a better bridge set up.

That would definitely give you less options and I’m guessing the cost could be restrictive to boot. On the plus side, a great many axes have survived without a case, but it must be difficult transporting it to and from a gig, Paul.

If so, have you thought of making a wooden or other case, perhaps using cut foam or something to that effect? It’s probably doable. I say that because we once hand built a sealed plexiglas watertight box to hold an expensive Beta camera so it could record video while it slid down with a mat and out a water slide. Way cheaper than the alternatives. Foam innards were our saviour. You’ll want to protect the bass finish, but that shouldn’t be too difficult to overcome.

I have yet to do any gigs with it, so I haven't had to worry about that, as of yet. I know that if I do, I'll have to do something, since that bass isn't as tough as a Precision Bass, and certainly risky to carry around without a case. I'll eventually figure something out.

I started off the day being recruited to roll meatballs. Then I migrated to the family/recording room to pick out several hours of music for the 18 family members expected at our place on Christmas Eve It was traditional when my mother-in-law was alive, and for two Christmases we carried it on at a care home for her. Since she past we still carry on the tradition that we missed while called away last year. Our house isn’t large, and the family increased; but, fortunately we have a finished basement to help cram everybody in. Should be fun. :P

Aw, gee whiz. Now you made me hungry. I’m currently out of Jello so I guess I’m stuck with a butter pecan tart. Oh, well.
