Alligators are knocking at my door.

I have way too much stuff stored in the basement. You’d think horders took over. Perhaps, they did. We have our stuff and our mother-in-laws (now our) stuff. Duplication is involved. Long story short. We are in a downsizing of stuff mode. It’s ongoing.

All of this has made the Family/Office/Media/Home Studio room inefficient and hard to use. So I am in a re-arrangement project that includes a ton of gear and cable horrors. I have a slew of component audio and I am about to hook up a surround system with my late brother’s receiver, etc. Miked drums, the usual electric guitar stuff, keyboard, a late edition HD projection screen (with limited hours on it), mixer and media PC, cases for books and records, furniture and more. Can’t forget the bar fridge. That doesn’t include the stuff.
I can’t wait to get the Man Cave done where recording isn’t a chore and where I have more room to actually move about while performing or practicing with the Strat and it’s pedals. 8)
Kowabunga dudes!

My usual routine after coming back from my walk, then I'll put in some time on the Precision Bass, and probably ignore my violin bass again. :P Actually, I did play it for a while a couple of days ago, so I don't feel too bad about that. I think what it is, is I haven't lately been in a mood for 60's music, like the Beatles, or Dave Clark Five era stuff, so I haven't been gravitating towards that bass, which has that kind of sound. When I am listening to it, I play it a lot more. I guess it's like some immersive thing for me to want to sound more like what I'm listening to at the time. It also breaks up the creative process, since I approach each instrument slightly differently.

I know just what you mean, Paul. I've been playing blues for about two years but I started listening to classic rock again so guess what, now I am playing rock again and really enjoying it. It feels fresh for some reason.8)

Sometimes I get stuck in a rut to where I don't even know what I want to listen to. At least it doesn't affect my playing, since I could just pick up the bass and play. Oddly enough, I'll come up with a lot of ideas by watching TV with a bass in my hands, not even thinking about it. That might sound distracting to have two things go on at the same time, but it really is not, because I'm not really concentrating on playing as much.

I do the same thing. Sometimes I'll noodle around while watching TV and come upon something. A light bulb turns on and I say to myself, "hey I like that... that's pretty cool". 8)

Maybe it's some sort of Zen thing that happens.

Maybe... one's consciousness is experiencing duality and something surfaces from the void.

I hear you Paul and Marky on this breaking from the norm and channeling interest in another genre or just noodling with kicking back and, perhaps listening to another playback simultaneously.

I remember having difficulty doing a drum wrap up at the end of a song other than a final flam or something similar. I like to listen to different genres and cherry pick ideas or techniques that I can use separately or combine in a genre that I choose.

One day. after many years of it missing me, I was listening to some records, kicking back in the afternoon and, not looking for it, one solo track that I can’t recall made a light go on. Wrapping up a song on the traps combined various tempos as a group or (for other tracks it was just a different tempo and technique). Sure I could have read or been taught that, but, when it hit me like an atomic bomb, suddenly it was a revelation and I owned it. I’ve been a happy camper ever since.

I love searching for that with the Strat too. All too often it occurs in the car, and hopefully I can recall that vibe.

All of this is why I encourage others to look outside the box. Guitars have been around a long time. Listen to DJango Reinhardt, Segovia, Lenny Breau, or a host of other guitarists that may not be the genre you choose or the guitarist prefer. These are alternatives to drugs to expand your mind. Ask the great guitarists who know this. I think the guitar gods choose who gets what, and who gets to recognize it, and who will understand that bonus, but first you have to introduce yourself. You can always return to comfort when you want. You may not want to though.

Fine! If that’s how you want to play, I’m throwing my hankey and asking for a slow mo replay. When they find out you continued to block me from that pudding I’ll take 15 (puddings that is). Canadian rules same as American. Don’t even think of arguing with the refs, I offered to share. :P
Or you can choose to wave the penalty and hand it over.

Going to finally put that wardrobe thingy together that I've been avoiding for a couple of weeks. :P Actually, I've been busy doing other stuff and haven't picked out the time to go and do it.

Chocolate pudding or anything chocolate is in my playbook. I expected a little razzle dazzle from you, knowing how I know you like pudding and Jello. Touchdown! I’ll pay you back at the players’ awards. :P
