Went to the UPS store this afternoon and shipped off the Schecter Ultra VI to the guy that bought it through Reverb.com. That's a pretty good place to move gear, if you can't move it locally. Sure, they charge a fee, but at least you have a bigger chance of it selling. Now, all is left is for someone to buy the Schecter Diamond J Bass, then I can get my Squier with the money. I was planning on buying a Jazz Bass, but I might actually get a P Bass, instead. I really don't have one, and I already do have a Squier Jazz Bass, it just needs the jack fixed (it has a short in it.) Originally, the plan was just changing out the Schecter Jazz for a Squier one. I just wound up liking the neck on the Squier more, not that there was anything wrong with the Schecter. It's an excellent bass, but I'm not really using it much for anything right now, and I might as well get something I know I will use.

You're probably right. I remember having those orange circus peanuts candy that you see in the cheap candy section, like root beer barrels, and gummy worms, and I had those once. That's because they were probably the sweetest thing I ever ate and yet tasted like nothing. Really bizarre. Sometimes, when you don't forgot, that can be a bad thing, as well as a good thing. :P

I had some tonight. This time it was some sort of cinnamon flavor and some sort of Madagascar vanilla flavor. They had a cotton candy flavor, which was tempting, because it was blue (blue food! :P) and one named after Elvis, because it was peanut butter and banana. That one should be deep-fried in a stick of butter, though. :P
They both sound delicious, especially the Elvis one. Deep fried would satisfy the King for sure and that sounds like a great idea. Maybe, they would consider calling the blue ones Blue Suede. :P
If it wasn't for the fact that I just had apple pie I'd be craving for those all night.

Maybe they make an apple pie flavor. One thing I do know is they are hand-made, and they do change out the flavors. I guess it depends on what they feel like making, when they make it.

I agree that there is still a place for DSLRs. Of course not all DSLRs are equal, and their specific features separate them as do lenses, etc. Although, I have more experience with professional video cameras with lenses worth thousands of dollars. I also have a history of very early digital cameras with crap resolution, unusable lag, and saturated colours amongst other things. Full format DSLR cameras are becoming less expensive and they are in a league of their own.

But, what brand and what format is not the point here as personal choice and the flavour of the day will always change and dictate as improvements are made.

I will say that I and my colleagues went through the digital photography denials on a professional level, some of which preceded the public offerings, and once major problems were ironed out the transition came with leaps and bounds rapidly.

DSLRs may see, except for specialty applications, a day when smartphones takeover too. Who knows for sure? But, major motion pictures and National Geographic have, for example, embraced the technology when it does the job. As an operator I know that small cameras are not always the best hands on tool for specific control, and still pro lenses and custom fittings are constantly being incorporated.

Without thought for brand or all technology out there here is just one good comparison as food for thought as to where this is going or has gone.

I make no judgment or recommendations. Here is a comparison simply for your enjoyment. (And yes there are options out there.)
Enjoy:

From The Inside - Terrific piece of photo/journalism, Mark.

Canada has similarities; however, our government run penal institutions and medical support are different and yet still flawed. Our cities and towns have lost souls along with violent ignored offenders on the street and behind walls; however, when comparing countries population wise, there are visible impact differences that bear witness. I don't believe any country has found a complete solution so far. Unfortunately, some solutions are worse than the problem, and you have documented many of those well.

I found your post an interesting read as my father told me that in the 1920s he and his friends had a daily walk by such a facility on the way to his school where a growly mentally challenged patient would shout obscenities at the kids, and as my Dad would tell it, the man would shake his hands on the window bars, look at them menacingly and shout, "When I get out of here, I'll get you kids!" I can't say if the kids taunted him as kids do, but I was told they feared the man and ran away often.

Today, mental illness is in the news everywhere with dimensia taking a top spot of topics to be discussed along with the aging and housing of baby boomers. I personally have seen Seniors' care homes with both wonderful and inadequate support for mental illness. Any conversation that ignites a better solution is welcome.

Your book is a wonderful contribution and timely my friend. I have no doubt it will be a success. All the best, Mark.

Thanks so much for the support, FSB (and PauLF and Marky Forrest)! I really appreciate it!

Listening to music and checking email. In other words, not much at the moment. :P

Is that what you use when you take your gear pics, or just a smartphone?

Yes, I use the Nikon for gear pics. I feel more comfortable with the DSLR, than I do using a smartphone. My wife, and daughter do well with a smartphone, and I've taken some shots that were ok with my phone.

Chilling out with a rare Blackberry Ginger Ale (seasonal and limited) and vodka.

Interesting, I don't know what he really achieved though, by submerging a DSLR in the tub. Not mine, but if he doesn't mind messing up his camera, oh well.

That is a nice DSLR that you have, Glenn. I wouldn't give it a bath either. Note: For the lesser informed, please do not soak your cellphone, and know that water resistant does not mean waterproof! Exceptions with water usage may be available.

I'm glad there was interest in the video. I didn't choose this video or brand over another because I know there are lots of variables and choices out there. I did pick it because the comparison was made and uploaded less than a year ago.

I think the water comparison is just to show that both can take water to a point. Although, I too was lost as to why the lense was removed, and whether his DSLR worked after a dryout. I know in some cases they can, and others aren't so lucky.

Many years ago my late brother had a. older technology Canon AE1 that went swimming from a whitewater raft on a Fraser River trip. He knew to quickly put it in a baggie filled with river water and take it to a tech who methodically dried the camera and it's parts. It worked for many years afterwards. I have no doubt the right DSLR in the right hands could perform that today. I wouldn't try it with either a smartphone or camera on a wim though unless I was sponsored or had some extra chump change.

As for DSLRs - If anyone has a full format Hasselblad with a digital back that they want to throw away I'd be happy to give it a good home.
It'll make outstanding Jello pictures.

I'm waiting. I'm waiting.

Congrats on the Schecter sale, Paul. Great you could swing a deal at AMS, Killer.

Thanks. 8) Now, I just need to sell the Schecter Diamond J Bass, so it can help pay off what I bought at AMS.

Been seriously jamming on the hollow-body violin bass. I think the flats on it are really starting to break in, or I'm really adjusted to the neck on it, since I'm starting to really dig in on it and fly up the neck. It has a lot of acoustic properties to it, so it's more like an acoustic than an electric. It's neck is small, like a guitar, so you can do a lot of chord-type strumming stuff, as well. I've yet to record on it, so we'll see how that goes. It does sound really good through the Fender amp, so I do have high hopes. I've never even plugged it into the Orange stack with the 18" Celestion. I never even brought it upstairs to the rehearsal room, so that's something that's just been put on the back burner during the summer. I'm sure eventually when the EP is finished up and we start playing out (hopefully,) then I'll see that in action. I haven't even turned that amp on in a year. I've been doing any rehearsing in the office with the Fender.
