The band's getting older, I'm getting older, but today I'm going to a best buddy's for a large 70th birthday celebration (after his recent heart attack) so I'll be the young one by 5 months, and let it be known that old farts can rock till the sun comes up the next day. Ask Keef. We were weaned on it. :wink:FSB

I bet you're still sleeping after the big party, FSB. An extra special 70th after his heart attack. Something to be truly grateful for that he is still here. I'm only a few years behind you and my son tells me I'm not old, I'm "seasoned". He also tells me I'm the best guitar player in the county. I knew there were reasons why I keep him around. I hope you and your Mrs. had a grand time. :)
Thanks, Marky.

If your son thinks you're the best then I'd keep him.
I could wail with a frog in my throat and my mother-in-law would still brag about my talent (or lack of), and I used to kid her about becoming my manager. I felt like I had a show mom pushing my career without merit.
I really don't think of myself as old. More like vintage needing a new neck and body with strings attached. Just don't put me in a case yet. I still want to play.
I did pretty well and survived the party. I even rolled outa bed at a decent time.

I thought Imight be able to tackle more weeds on this sunny Sunday; but, more rain for two days put the kibosh on that idea. Just can't get three days in a row without rain :?
The good side of that is I get to watch football. :D
Have a good one.

Hey, Paul. I got to thinking how well you did. How's it going? Are you still shedding pounds or are you in the maintenance mode? Best.

Today is my day to catch up on paperwork. FSB, personally I don't think I play guitar as well as my neighbor down the road let alone being the best in the county but my son always tries to make me feel good, God bless him. I'm glad you and Mrs. FSB had a good time.

Well, today I'm going to make some charcoal BBQ alder/maple syrup/vodka/ lemon/garlic sea salt marinated Arctic Char with Argentine shrimp on the side, and scalloped spuds.

Being a retired avid fresh and saltwater angler, and having been raised on both coasts where scallops, shrimp, lobster, crab, cod, halibut, and salmon were caught and packed, I learned from some of the best, as others here likely have - so I love all seafood (preferably not farmed for a variety of reasons including my allergies to most antibiotics should I run into a problem during or after - blah blah).

The problem is even I have a hard time learning what is and isn't farmed or offshore. Today, I found three countries involved with the shrimp. The Canadian distributed, Wild Argentinian shrimp comes from Vietnam and not Argentina according to the evasive fine print.

We have Arctic Char in our local waters and neighbouring provinces and territories, but there was no labelling saying this lot was farmed outside the country even though it was packed within a day's drive from here. It does say product of Canada because it was processed here.
Checking out the distributor reveals the full story. Oh. and next time you get Pacific shrimp with your country or a preferred one listed - check the fine print if it's there. Who knows, your next shrimp may be from a laced rice paddy. I wouldn't worry about all this though. It's here and there. It's everywhere including your favourite takeout. I indulge when I don't have an alternative.
If you see fish all the same colour (like Costco) chances are it's dyed and/or likely farmed. Where and how is the question. Then we have to assume labels are what they say they are. Names may be a species and not a location. Scallops could be cookie cutter skate. There's a reason salmon on the menu simply says salmon. I'll stop here, because there's much more. The shame of it all.
Am I concerned that our products are inferior? Sure. But, that's another story. My bigger concern is that we don't know what we pay for, and the better product becomes more expensive and often unavailable. I just want the chance to grab the better product should that be my choice. Just sayin'.

That said, on the up side, that Arctic Char and shrimp on the Barbie will do just fine for today. :D

Tip: Fast frozen may be tastier than a long haul fresh.

It's coming along. The last weight I'm up to 87 pounds lost. I've gone up to walking 6 miles/120 minutes a day and I had to buy new shoes, since I've been putting on a lot of mileage on them. I suppose runners have several pairs that they wear, since they probably do more than I do, especially those training for marathons. I've seen a few locals around here that do that. That's the funny thing when you do the same thing daily, eventually you'll recognize other people around that do similar things. I guess that makes me a local around here, even though I'm not from here originally. I have lived here for over 14 years, though.

Technically, I'm not even on the mainland of the United States, I live on an island. We like to make a joke to when we go over the bridge to go into another city in Rhode Island, that we say we're going into the United States. :P We did that today, going to North Providence to see my girlfriend's grandmother, and the rest of the state is nothing like Newport at all. If anything, it kind of reminds me off Portmeirion in North Wales. If you ever watched the 60's show "The Prisoner," then you might have an idea about that.

That's all pretty cool, Paul. I totally get the US joke. On Vancouver Island we used to ask mainlanders if they checked in to our border patrol. They were then informed that we were pretty particular who came to the island because once they found out how relaxed it was from the mainland we'd have trouble putting them back on the mainland. :P

Great work, as always, on getting buff and walking. You must get up every day, look in the mirror, and introduce yourself to the new guy. :D

The funny thing is when I first moved here, I wasn't all too keen with the place, but then grew to love it as time went on. I think it helped that I became more interactive by walking over town and realizing that there's quite a bit around here to see and do. Plus, the music scene around here has improved vastly over the past few years, besides other night life and shopping. Unfortunately, there aren't any guitar shops around and there were at least 4 or 5 when I first got here, but at least the places to play have increased. Then again, things like Guitar Center and ordering on the internet killed off a lot of that. The economy tanking around 2007 or so didn't help for a lot of things, either.

I really don't put a lot of thought into it until it's the end of the month and I get nervous when it's time to weigh in and measure. Even if I get down to the weight I want to be at, I'm going to keep on walking. I can't sit on my arse for too long anymore. I have to move around. The only difference will be I won't have to worry so much about counting the calories, but then again I won't go totally lax, either. That can come around and sneak up on you if you're not careful.

I'm jamming a bit on the bass and waiting for the UV index to go down a bit to go for a walk. I notice when I go out and the sun's really strong, like it is in the summer, it makes me a little sick. It's probably the vampire gene or something. :P

Right now I'm listening to a noisy roller packing gravel for the new street, waiting for my steering gear repairs on the car, and doing Buddy Holly impressions with the acoustic.

I don't think Buddy would approve; but, it's said there's always a sucker born every minute

Spoiled again. OJ on my TV table, OJ on TV, fresh brewed coffee, and eggs Benedict on toast.

Quite the way to start the day. :P

A little over 20 years ago, you would have had OJ on your TV. :P

O.J. just won his hearing for parole! Whether it's going to be in Nevada or a move to Florida is yet to be determined.

I saw that. It's funny that I didn't even know about that when I left that comment.
