 Now why didn't I think of that? That could have been fun. :D I have this small tumor under my left eyelid and my PCP sent me to a very specialized ophthalmologist. The eye doc called it something I never heard of before and there's about 10% chance it's malignant so I'll start with eye drops that Walgreens had to order in and see him again in two weeks. Leave it to me to come up with this weird stuff.

Look at the bright side, Marky. You have something others don't. But, seriously I'm wishing you the best.

If it's any help you should know my kid brother (6 years younger) used to call me Weirdo when he was just a tyke. That's what I deservedly got for being a tease. :P

Started the day doing a little bit of laundry, then went for a walk and some grocery shopping. We got some stuff to make beef and pepper burritos with and made those for dinner.

The best part of the night is somehow a bat got in the house, so I had to put that fishing net on a pole to use that we bought to catch one, in case one ever got in again. Fortunately, the bat was hanging off the curtain in the living room where I could get to it, and not flying around and freaking out, so I wouldn't have to swat it down and potentially hurt it. So I got it in the net and put it to the ground, then my girlfriend put a beach towel over the opening, in case it could fly out, and we took it outside and had to shake it out on the ground, since it didn't fly off right away. All in all a well planned team effort worked out and that net was a good investment.

Holey Batman, Batman. That was fortunate for you, your girlfriend, and the bat.
Nice teamwork, Paul. I'm betting that bat knew tasty burritos were in the territory.

What kinda bat was it? A baseball bat or a cricket bat?

Glad it all worked out.

Well, it wasn't a vampire bat, or at least it didn't turn into Count Dracula, or Count Chocula, for that matter. :P I'm glad I was able to get it out of the house without it being a pain in the arse to do so, which was the case in past instances with those critters. They like to fly around madly around the ceiling, instead of simply flying out the door that's open to them, which was usually the case. The thing is I'm not sure how it got in the house in the first place, since the chimneys have had grates installed, which they weren't before which was the reason I think that they got in previously. Maybe it was some sort of timing issue that the door was left open at the right time and they happened to fly in? Who knows? It's an old house (built in 1882) and a lot of strange things happen around here. :P

I'm waiting until dawn so I can go for a walk. Hopefully, the rain will have stopped by then. It's been relentless lately. I think it's actually going to warm up to 81 degrees in the next couple of days. I'm not going to mind, it's been cold and damp lately.

You've been getting a lot of rain, too? Other than a day here or there, we've had to time it by looking at the hourly weather report to know when to go out for a walk, and have to take an umbrella.

Love the old architecture. We shared a building on Vancouver Island with best friends in a home that was over a hundred years old too. Also from the mid 1800s, it was once the wardroom for the British Navy. It still had the many original thin glass panes with their flaws and all. We could see rippled reflections in the glass announcing an earthquake even before we experienced the shaking. Even though there were newer outlets some of the old two pin British outlets existed along with high ceilings surrounded by picture rails where we hung pictures from hooks and ribbons as they were done in the early days. The owner had an architect friend research the building of that era and they painted the building accordingly. No bats. vampires, or swashbuckling ghosts though. The four of us were the only strange things happening in that quadraplex. Fun times. :D

There's a lot of that around here, too. I walked by a house that was built in 1709. Speaking of old electrical outlets, we still have a couple of them on the first floor, probably from 1910 or something like that. I think they might still work, too. There use to be gas lighting in here, so some fixtures had been converted and other ones were just capped off.

Cool. I know what you mean by the gas and electrical. One has to be careful in those old houses so you don't get zapped like I did with an original chandelier. We had a nifty swinging door between the kitchen and dining room that kept us amused if two people on either side used it at the same time. I always found humour in that many things like cupboards and closets were narrow and tall considering that people in those days were usually quite short and needed stools or other help to reach things. In the house I even found some antique light bulbs from Europe. No guitars though. :( Just like your area there was a lot of influence from being a seaport or close to one. We even had a castle in the neighbourhood that was a promised present to a bride of yesteryear. To make the bride feel a connection to her homeland, it was pretty much built with material brought from Scotland.

I doubt if some of today's homes willl last and, as good as some things are, the workmanship misses much of the detailed craftsmanship that has long been forgotten, replaced, or priced out of the market. Besides, today's adventurous history and ghosts are less interesting IMHO. :P FSB

That said, I like modern architecture too in some cases. Wright and Eichler for example.
