Going to do a family breakfast at "C" Kracker Barrel. I can't use the real spelling of $@!&#* Barrel here with a "C". It's a bad word. Image

30+ hours. A first and last experience but worth the effort as the new season does look very interesting. :D

I've had that issue when I listed listening to a Led Zeppelin concert bootleg. It was called "$@!&#* Jack Blues." No, I wasn't cursing. :P

I think I'm going to change my schedule around again to be up on days, since my girlfriend does have some things she wants to do that require that and the places she needs to go to aren't open late at night. Usually in the summer, we're on nights (it gets dark around 9:00 PM, so it's not like I'll see any daytime) and it's cooler in the evening. The fall we like to be up in the morning, especially when the colors are at peak. Last year was pretty good for that. That's my favorite time of year. I wish it lasted longer.

That kind of language and many politically correct/incorrect words are a bad idea altogether. IMHO. Strange that those that holler intolerance are hypocritically quiet about sharing it.

If Stephen Hawkins is correct in his assessment, the near future will include a move from this planet for survival. Doubters only need to look towards the private enterprises' current involvement in that arena. Were that to happen everything from religion, to politics, to political correctness, to tolerance and reason, amongst other things, will be quite different from the craziness we have now. Of course, there will always be those that dwell on the past and those that look to the future. I only hope Rock and Roll will survive. I won't be here to find out so for now I will have some crispy wafers and cheese. 8)

There is confusion with no wrong or right about a word that is interpreted to be a colour and absence of colour, but that is a whole other matter and I'm good with both as long as it works in the context for which it is used.

Hey, Paul. I can relate to your days and nights. I gave up a more prestigious job from 7 til 4 (more like 5) weekday shift to a more brutal mostly nights 24/7 available shift based on a higher paid move to another city. For 10 years I missed out on alot as my wife worked on opposite shifts, and weekends were sometimes split up. Looking back, I now realize how much we could have shared, but today we are making up for it. All was not bad, however, as it afforded us some great times to which we might never have had, and we truly enjoyed the times we had together as we do now. Except when she takes me shopping. So my hat's off to you.

Getting ready for a fun day. Heading out for breakfast, some off-roading before it gets too hot out, have lunch, take a nap, work on my new bench and restring my SG (never got around to it), practice, dinner, watch a movie and go to bed. It'll take me two days to recover from all that fun. I hope it's worth it.

Have a great time. Marky. Sounds like fun. Meanwhile, my outdoor carpet is cut, trimmed, and laid out for gluing. I tarped it because the weathercast was wrong. Yumpin' yiminy, what a surprise. It said sun and cloud for yesterday (wrong), and rain today (right). Well, the rain came early, and I never got the glue down. So, I get to watch the droplets instead. That's okay, because I now get to do some guitar noodling. The new Bachelor show is on TV tonight for Mrs. FSB and that means more Strat time for me. Works every time. :D

FSB - I've been meaning to reply to a couple of your posts but now I can't find them so I'll have to wing it.
Firstly, thanks for sharing your insider look at the news and television. I don't remember specifics but I know that I totally agreed with your insight and knowledge.
Secondly, you mentioned the Zenith Space Command TV remote control. That brought back some great memories for me. My father manufactured all the metal cabinets and chassis for Zenith, Motorola and RCA in his factory so we were privy to one of the first Zenith TV's with Space Command. Man, at the time, that was amazing. You could change the channel (up/down) and adjust the volume from your chair! I don't remember it being able to turn the TV on or off though but it was still so cool. The buttons (rocker switches) actually clicked when you pressed them. I guess that's where the term "clicker" came from. I had so much fun with that thing. I think I drove my father crazy with it but he never complained. He was a great man. :D
Lastly, I think it's awesome that you still have the old vinyl recording of your voice that you sent to your grandmother so long ago. What a great memory that must be for you! :D
When my eldest brother was in boot camp at Camp Pendleton he sent one to us back home. He didn't care for boot camp very much but he became a fine soldier. We were all very proud of him. :)
Have a great day!

Thanks, for the reply with your post, Marky. Cool that your Dad was involved with all that TV stuff. The Zenith TV and Space Command was at my uncle's and he brought it home from a trip to the U.S. You are right about it clicking and I seem to remember my uncle's TV did not turn off as you said. I recall a rotary channel knob turning around on his set.

We had one of the first TVs in our neighbourhood, (a 17 inch Marconi) that gathered the rest of the family to our place on the weekend. Canada's big country tv coverage was pretty sparse in the early days except for central Canada and the coasts. We were lucky, however, to get tv from nearby Washington state.

The funniest thing I've seen was the plastic sheet that you taped over the B&W screen. Blue gradient transparency on top, clear in the middle, and gradient brown and green on the bottom. Worked on landscape - not so much for faces.
Even funnier was that it was a Washington TV station promoting and giving it out! I remember my father getting excited to receive that transparency rolled up in a cardboard tube. My brother and I kidded him for years.

Great memories from your brother, Marky.

The first (notice it's from Zenith)(RCA would have differed on the first inventor just like many do with who invented TV):

One of the first Space Command remote TVs (much like I remembered).

Cheers!

Just got back from a long walk (almost 6 miles today) and the grocery store. We went out around 5: 30 AM and it had stopped raining. It was actually pretty nice weather for the walk. Now, I'm listened to some Hot Tuna and waiting for 11:00 AM to roll around so the Chinese restaurant to open so we can get some takeaway.

Thanks for the videos, FSB. I never saw a Zenith FLASH-MATIC before. It looks like an old sci-fi ray gun or a hair dryer. The TV in your second video is the one that I remember too. It was really cool in its' day. Never saw a Marconi TV before but it's nice to hear how it brought your family together on weekends. The plastic transparency is news to me too. Sounds like you and your brother had a lot of fun kidding your dad about that. At 6'4", I used to be the tallest one in my family. My son is 6'6" and he always seems to find a way of reminding me of that. Ah, kids... gotta love 'em.

I had a long day going out and about. Spent a couple of hours shopping in different stores, went for a walk, went into another store while on the walk, then got some Chinese takeaway again. Tomorrow I'm actually going to cook something, though. I just didn't feel like it today.
