The dogs are actually flipped. The lighter colored sitting one is the one who is usually pulling, and the Dachshund is more of a PITA to get to move. Image

Getting ready to go for my walk soon. The weather has been nice and warm the past couple of days and even have been able to have the window open.

Carpet on outdoor steps? I wouldn't recommend it. Unfortunately, I inherited carpet coverings both front and back.

Looks nice, but PITA to maintain, finding replacement carpet, scraping, cutting, gluing/ungluing, etc. Thankfully, last year I was gifted with a very useful heat gun. Today, out with the old back one. I prepped it for tomorrow's new outdoor carpet. I'll finish the job for the second time (before the skeeters and yellow jackets arrive). It gets a little harder on the hands and legs the older I get; however, it would be very costly labour to have another do the finicky time spent job. New steps are very expensive here, but that may be a future solution. Last year was a write off with family travels and weather while the carpet sat in the shed for 2 years. The nice thing is I got a break in having an earlier Spring with good weather this year, so I may enjoy the summer patio yet. 8)

Where's that magic carpet when I need it.

You should replace the carpet with some 1970's shag, preferably in orange or perhaps avocado green. :P

Youse guys are the greatest. Made me laugh first thing in the morning. So funnee, artistic, and inspirational. I can't thank you enough. That's why I'm here. I need all the motivation I can get.

Actually, pole lamps are in and I think your shag idea could make a comeback. You could try it as a dynomite covering on your amp, Paul, and just think what it would look like as a scratch plate, Glenn. You could give it the carpet on the hardwood floor look. 8) If I scrounge around maybe I'll find some Jello orange shag from my long gone '73 Class C motor home. That was for real.

I almost blew it and laid down drab grey.

I know at least one of you, or you definitely know someone who had "the van." That was the tradition of the 70's, at least. Fully outfitted, of course, and you know what I'm talking about. :P My older brother, who came of age in the 70's, had a few of them.

You know, I did thought about getting red shag carpet for my Fender Rumble combo amp. The 5 year warranty has expired, so I don't have to worry about somehow voiding it. I doubt I could sell it for much of anything, since it's pretty much obsolete with the 3rd generation out. It's a good amp, but it's twice as heavy as the new ones and it doesn't have the option to hook up extra cabs like them, either.

Your shag amp would rock, Paul. You could braid a handle with hemp, beads, and puka shells.

I remember those vans. Some guy down the street from my home won one of many Coca Cola Vans with highly stitched denim upholstery co-sponsored by Levi's. It was fully loaded and very desirable by the masses.

Those flower power grafetti VW vans, all the rage for Surfers and hippies, had a little problem. The engine blocks on some, if not all, were magnesium, as an uninformed fireman found out when turning a hose on one in my work's parking lot. The small fire got more intense with a sparkler show that sadly totalled some tourists' chosen mode of transportation.

But, as for the custom and rat vans of the day (with weekly and monthly how to magazines) I heard stories, and the variety of smells when they drove by made me wonder. Cheech and Chong lived nearby and were said to have been seen in one. Nobody ever played jazz or classical music in one. I could never understand why all the vans were delivering mattresses? Nobody would talk about it. Okay, some did, but mattress delivery never came up. Other than that, as a former Westcoaster, I know nothing. It was just a pipe dream.

The soundtrack for my brother's van was usually Pink Floyd, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin, and of course the other usual suspects thrown in the mix. He had speaker boxes from some home stereo (don't remember the brand) rigged under the back seat and a tape deck. In between the two front seats was of those metal green Coleman coolers, which he didn't keep soda in, to put it mildly. Yeah, I was drinking beer way younger than when I turned 21. :P He didn't have a mattress, that I remember, but there was carpeting on at least one or two of the vans. The first van I remember he had was a 1971 Ford van, which was originally my mom's van that she had when I was born up until I was maybe 6 or 7 years old. I remember it only had lap belts in it for seat belts, since even that was a new thing for vehicles.

You know, there are A LOT of people driving around here that remind me of Cheech and Chong, but they don't drive vans anymore. :P Every time I go for a walk up and down the main roads where all of the activity is, you can smell them driving past really strong. I think that stuff is a lot stronger than it was back in the day. I've known some old hippy dudes even telling me that that still smoke it.

Just came back from my walk and did a little housework, or as I call it, domestic crap. I know it's probably not the most rock and roll thing to do, but I don't have one of those robots to do it for me. :P
