Updating and checking the security of the Windows PC, scanning for any new found virus which gives me time to check the Forum, and perhaps time to download some new free plugins for the DAW. :D

FSB - from what I have read, the ransom virus does not affect Win10 users. In case that is your OS.

Actually, I haven't migrated to that yet, Marky. When Windows 7 and 8 came out it was the usual Microsoft tap dancing until they decided on 10. Some of the production software I've used waited, and some still are waiting, to see how the OSs stabilize, how the manufacturers decide, and how the market goes. I have a pretty skookum Media PC that has a lot of bells and whistles that cost pretty much the same today if I were to replace it - which I will when I have to upgrade. Seems like the PC manufacturers have found a way to keep their market stable as prices apple to apples have not changed much like they used to do. Like a lot of electronics, and the fact that mobile and online are the buzzwords today, this one will be getting the boot with new upgrades and missing features. I decided some time ago to keep Vista until the component dust settled with Windows 7,8, and 10. As a supplement, OS 10 will be fine for me, with iOS (and little used Android) I will jump ahead to a new Windows OS when Vista fails completely. By that time either I will expire or the PC will (Virus or otherwise) and hopefully the future OS will be even better; although, I wouldn't bet the farm on that. I can see a future with everything being streamed and online. I don't like that because it means once a learning curve is met another will be forced without choice and perhaps, at a cost willy nilly. We are almost there now with package deals and monopolies. That is a recipe for disaster when everybody loses out at the same time with a shutdown.
So, thanks for the heads up all the same, Marky. I appreciate it. Vista is a challenge, but less so than that great DOS, and early Windows 3 versions. Personally, having used all the OSs prior, generally speaking unless one is a gamer, has specific needs, and/or has a PC that is strapped for power, storage, and memory, Vista can fill a role pretty well with all it's downsides . . . and before the computer police come after me, I know of its many issues, but, I also know that's the trend with all Windows programs . . . but, ya can't have everything. Mrs. FSB knows nothing about Windows, and she does just fine. Me, I'm a glutton for punishment. "Give me Windows or give me freedom", I don't think both are possible.

Didn't someone say Mac and iOS can't get a virus? :P

Marky, I believe you are right Windows 10 is not targeted with this ransom virus in question. However, we all could be affected with lack of services provided to us if we require something from a corporation that gets hit. All it takes is for any part of their organization to bog down or lose control, or for their contacts to lose control and so on. I think that's as likely as Vista or any other operating system getting a virus (except they have an IT department). Besides, there are various options to infect or affect the computer and its operation regardless of make and design. A simple loss of Internet to a virus that has been circling the world for years without revealing its purpose, to an infected thumb drive or disc. It's not if - only when IMHO.

Went for my walk, did some grocery shopping, then got some takeaway from the Chinese Restaurant.

I'm with you FSB. It's ok with me if my system is "outdated". If it's running fine and doing what I want it to do, I'll leave it alone and be happy. I won't update just for the sake of updating. I'm old school DOS like you, FSB. I started on an Atari then a Commodore and my first "real computer" was an IBM PC (no HD). When the IBM XT, with a 10mb HD, came out I bought one and couldn't imagine how I would ever use up that much storage. It's funny that now some of our phone apps are larger than 10mb.

FSB - I forgot to mention that President Obama had an Internet kill switch installed so they (whomever they are) can shut down the Internet. In the interest of national security, of course.

Whoo Hoo! A partner in crime from the old school reasoning. I remember those machines, Marky. I remember trying to fly a plane without luck on my nephew's Intellivision, and later spending crazy money for PC support before I learned to bite the bullet on a sluggish dial up modem because I hadn't been informed of that advantage. :? As a former technical director with formal training and self taught leading edge necessities dedicated and personal computers are tools of familiarity; but, they are no longer embraced as a novelty for me unless they provide a service. At work I had support staff. Here at home I am the support staff and manager of all the home's computer related gear. The involvement outweighs the control room I had. Besides, like many, there are bells and whistles I haven't even put into action. I have, however, found use for old floppies and a floppy drive to supplement my four disc drives, CD/DVD drive, and USBs.
FSB

Obama had a button to shut down the Internet. Wow! Really? I sometimes wish I could connect with one button. :P
Besides we still drive a box on wheels, and pluck strings on a piece of wood, and that's still cool IMHO. 8)

I did some more laundry, went for a walk, did some more grocery shopping, made some beef and pepper burritos for dinner, cleaned up that mess, and checked social media and email. I also put in some bass time on the Schecter. Now I'm listening to some tunes and going through the forum.

I'm waiting for Hydro to show up (2 hours late) so the new gas line and meter can be installed. I guess the existing one isn't charging me enough.
FSB

Maybe, I'll learn some new chords while I'm waiting. I have a book with pictures and diagrams of over 2,600 chords! (And you pros think ya had it licked). :wink:I only have 2,599 more to learn. I wish it were the other way around.
Wait a minute! I just realized that I could reduce the amount of chords to learn by switching to a bass. A lot of good that will do with my memory and skill. :D

My usual walk at some point and I'm going to have left over burritos that I made last night for dinner.

I'm reading up on my 2600 Guitar Chord book and (just when I thought I had it Aced) I found out that the Picture Chord Encyclopedia doesn't contain EVERY chord that exists. Dang!

In fact no book can do that. Kinda good because now I have an excuse for not knowing them all.
