. . . Note: Canada's vodka drink, originating in Calgary, the Caesar (vodka, Clamato juice, lime juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire (a little celery salt and pepper optional) over ice stirred with a celery stick, is found everywhere, especially during summer. A great brunch beverage. Cheers!

My grandparents (on my mother's side, who were Russian and Ukrainian immigrants) made this stuff called vishnovka, which was made with fermented cranberries, although it's also made from sour cherries. I guess it's some type of liqueur that is pretty good mixed with vodka.

I've never had a Moscow Mule, but that sounds pretty good.

That Caesar sounds like a Bloody Mary, which is great breakfast drink, by the way. :P Except, I've just had V8 or tomato juice mixed with vodka, and not added the rest of it that goes into it. The thing about those is it doesn't make your breath all too pleasant, as my girlfriend would attest to. :P I suppose that has a lot to do with the tomato juice, because that can happen without vodka in it. You know, I didn't like V8 as a kid (my dad use to drink it and I had tried some,) but as an adult I like it. I'm like that with a few things. I guess your tastes change when you get older.
Hey, Paul. Mrs, FSB likes Vodka and a touch of CranRas to make a CranTini. Not the same as vishnovka, but pretty good. As for Bloody Mary it sort of grabs me like.a Red Eye Beer (a great hangover cure of tomato juice and beer), neither my faves. For me, I gotta have Clamato juice which is not in all bars, and neither is ginger beer. Gingerale does work as a poorman's substitute.for Moscow Mules though. I've discovered very nice white (rather than the more common delicious red) Chateau Neuf Du Pape. I gotta get a life and drink the usual stuff.
I digress as the subject is What Are You Doing? Right now I'm drinking red wine. Gosh! Do I really drink a lot? No. Only if I'm thirsty, and since I'm on the Forum I'm classified as a social drinker..

Where's the Labatt's, Moosehead, or Molson? You got to represent Canada. :P I know I did my part, especially with Molson. :P I'm not Canadian technically, but I'm pretty sure I have Canuck heritage. My last name is LaFleur (sometimes spelled Lafleur) and I know my grandfather was born in a place in Rhode Island that had a large French Canadian immigrant population. How far back, I'm not sure, other than I know he spoke French and was a WW1 veteran. I never knew him because he died a few years before I was born.

Have your bloody mary's with dark rum to eliminate any bad breath
(the darker the better for bloody's, be careful, 'tis an addicting beverage)

No, I never tried that. I've only had Rum and c Coke, Mojitos, and Daiquiris, as far as rum goes. At least as far as I remember.

The thing I hate about getting new shoes is the fact I wear a 13 Wide. 13 isn't too bad as much as I have a wide foot, which is a huge arse pain, sometimes.

I've got Canadian (American and European) beer in my veins; but, IMHO you haven't lived until you've had 180 Proof Pussers' rum straight no ice. Good for mincemeat tarts and Christmas pudding sauce too.

Newfie Screech will do it too.
Shuffling 'round the house in my comfy old shoes. :D

Yeah, I reckon he has to get shoes custom made. He's 8 inches taller than I am.

You know, I find the higher the proof with rum, the less likely it is to give you a hangover because it's purer alcohol, as long as you don't over do it. It's a similar concept with vodka, the more times filtered, the better it is. The highest proof rum I've had was Bacardi 151. That stuff sounds interesting, though. That's like getting into Everclear territory (190 proof.) Can you get Everclear in Canada?

Yeah, the wide widths don't seem to be that common.

Paul asked if Everclear was available in Canada?

Well, many years ago it was a rarity usually brought in across the Canadian/American border likely illegally. I did manage to have some pass my lips back then, and White Lightning (a lesser proof) was a close second rarity; although, today I saw Tennessee Moonshine in mason jars for sale at the Liquor Store, and I believe 100 proof White Lightning is produced also by the same distiller.

Local hooch was and is available considering the farming available, however. That's a risk unless the provider is well known with a stellar history so it is usually kept amongst family, friends, and neighbours who might share the snakebite. It's usually added to kick up
a cocktail rather than drinking it neat. This makes the alcohol stretch a little longer considering the difficulty in getting it (secrecy and all).

I believe that Everclear has been available only in Alberta without a permit. Liquor laws have recently allowed relaxed rules for transferring alcohol amongst the provinces so Everclear may make it's way to those places generally considered prohibited. :D

I believe it's banned in 14 states (Rhode Island, the state I live in, isn't one of them) at 190 proof, but they make a 151 proof version. I don't understand the point of that, other than some political b.s., because people could just double the amount they drink, anyway. I don't recall drinking it, although I've seen it in the liquor store. I've heard you should mix it with something, which I would. I think bad things could happen if you slugged that stuff straight. :P

You are right, Paul. Spiking a drink is the preferred method. I've tasted but not drank Everclear straight because I'm guessing it would be like consuming jet fuel. Depending on how much you use you might want to be sitting down, not that you'll be able to get up afterwards though.

As for what I'm doing today - I'm pouting because as a Canuck I can't enter the Clapton contest with Fender. Curses. Here's hoping somebody else here wins.
