Trying to keep my cool. 8) (I, perhaps, understand why, for the time being, Fender is keeping a distance from Fuse, and software related gear, etc.)

I have iOS, Android, and Windows (albeit Vista which has served me okay). This week MS and Google have pulled the plug on XP and Vista. Win 7/8 can't be far behind with the tragic IMHO migration to Windows 10; which, in some cases, requires two Microsoft browsers (IE for legacy programs, and Edge that integrates with Win 10). I'm not placing any bets that Windows 10 is going to be a success in it's present form.

This might be fine with touch screens, tablets, and xbox integration; but, for existing desktop media production, and I'm certain other applications, this on board browser war and mobile characterized OS has created a Pandora's box. This is particulary true for a lot of DAWs, and the like.

Not only do I have concerns for browser incompatibility, Microsoft forces a new supported OS that will require a clean install (upgrade with 7 & 8 versions). This will result in losing some existing features and programs. Now I find (as with Amplitube upgrades) that many 32 bit programs are shifting to 64 bit. This is both good and bad depending on one's situation (especially, if your computer doesn't meet 64 bit specs). Whatever software can be reclaimed may, in fact, become incompatible. Then there is the headache of locating and installing plug-ins and whatnot. Hopefully, existing projects will not be sacrificed.

So backup is only good to a point . . . yet to be determined. (I may try a different browser approach for the time being. I know it won't last.). For those who believe an operating system other than Windows is the answer, I believe the writing is on the wall. It looks like the browser and operating system is destined to become one in the same. The problem is - I can see the programs following that route. Everything is pointing to the online solution. Great, until it goes sour, and it will/has! For software manufacturers it's a profitable blessing, and a nightmarish curse. For me? I don't want to lose control of the work methods I choose, and then there's the hours spent to learn and perfect, and I don't want to give my purchase to a mobile like app that decides it's time to present a learning curve or change when I'm in the middle of project. I've spent many years in studios doing that, only to simpify when practical. I'm retired now, so simplification with choices and laziness (I just wanna play) is my friend. Not that it's hard, although, it can be, it's just so dang time consuming, and all that work becomes a risk to lose too much including your wallet. This holds true if you have to change gear and/or software at an expense that puts you in a choice that has no more longevity than a simple roll of the dice, and today that is exactly where it is - a crap shoot.

So here I am working out how to update, transfer, and manage my music rather than playing it. I may have to rebuild my 4 Track deck. Naw, tape is rare and expensive. Time to pick up the Strat and chill before another kick at the can.

Note: This is why I elected to purchase hardware instead of software for some essential gear. :D Ah, what the heck. I've been through it before and I'll, grudgingly, do it again. Besides, all the software tools are cool.
YMMV

That's a good idea, Paul.

This morning I was rudely woken up to my wife alerting me that the water heater was spewing a water leak. Fortunately, I was home and caught it before a major catastrophe (like my Strat, amp, and drums floating in the man cave).

A drink sounds pretty good to me. :D

Yeah, that's would be a good thing, there. We've had water pipes burst in the house we live in (it's my girlfriend's parents summer home) during the winter a few years back because her mom had the brilliant idea to have roofing done in January, which in Rhode Island is not a good idea. It can get pretty cold here, brutally so, in fact. I remember waking up 2:30 AM to got to the bathroom and hearing what sound like a waterfall and I opened the bedroom door (it's a 3 story house-actually 2 story and converted attic space that was built in 1882) on the second floor and water was gushing down the center of the house (staircase area) from the third floor, pouring down the chandelier down to the first floor where the bar area is. What happened was they had nothing but a tarp on the roof where the 3rd floor bathroom is and the exposed pipes burst because of the cold. Luckily, none of our gear was in the way of that (what little we had at the time, it before I even got the Fender bass amp) and also luckily we were there when it happened, otherwise it could have totally destroyed the inside of the house, because no one else was living there at the time. They have a maintenance man, but he might not even stopped by for a couple of days, especially the weekend.

Whoa! I hear you, Paul. I now live where 40 below weather is not a pipe dream; but, having lived in Nova Scotia, shovelling as a kid and chipping ice off of ships' guard rails, just north of you, I can feel the pain you and your girlfriend must have experienced in those difficult conditions. I hope the bar was open for you, Bro'. :D
Cheers!

That's true, Canada is even closer to the North Pole and part of there makes this place look like Florida in the winter time. :P Actually, I figured out it would be roughly 6 hour drive from here in Newport to get to Canada, or Montreal, at least. Take Route 93 to Route 89 and go through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
