Just got home from a 40th Anniversary reunion of television staff who started a TV station that became Global TV, a national network. Good fun had by all. :D

Gosh, I'm getting old. Wait! I am old.

Well, 40 years ago I was 3, so I guess you and me both. :P

Thanks, for your kind words for making me feel younger, Paul.
But, when I was born Al Jolson was still on the charts (even though rock and roll was in it's infancy). When you were born . . . Twisted Sister arrived.
At least Keith Richards is older than me, and he still rocks. I guess you could call this whole phenomena of ours, "Rock Of Ages"

Cheers!

Nothing guitar related
I broke my femur 3 weeks ago and have been consigned to the dining room table and a blow up bed here in our Turkish villa
It'll be another week before I can weight bear on it , so I'll have to be content with looking at our (very inviting) pool, seeing as it averages 36% here and wondering if I do go in it.....can I get out again!

Sorry to hear about your accident, Ted. Femur, huh? That's a bummer.
I was going to say "Break a leg."; but, it looks like you already did. Here's hoping you'll soon be back to normal.

Crap... !!

Rollin' down the road today in my Summer Daily Driver, a 1990 BMW 325is (E30). Pristine shape, one-owner, <90k mi. Certainly one of the nicest E30s out there, a real Pocket Rocket.

All original except for an extreme custom Track Suspension setup - Custom Coilovers, Camber Plates, Poly Bushings, etc. (lowering the car some 2+"). It is the proverbial 'Like it was on Rails' machine.

I'm sitting at a Red Light when a guy at the Bus Stop across the street shouts over: "Hey... there's gas shooting out under your car..."

The light turns and I cross and immediately pull over. Sure enough, there's a steady stream of gas pouring into the street.

I'm half a mile from home, so I head to the garage. The hard lines running under the car have been damaged by some debris.

Oh well, nothing to do but cut out the damaged section (2") and splice-in a piece of Fuel hose and a pair of clamps until I can get replacement parts from BMW.

... there goes today's practice time... :(

cheers!

What blows my mind is I'm actually biologically old enough to be a grandparent. How in hell did that happen? :P 40 was an interest age to hit when I did. It didn't freak me out, but actually rather liberating. All of the BS that you worried about in your 30's becomes meaningless. It's like you're granted this wisdom to where you just no longer give a damn. Why am I worrying about this crap?

It could be worse, your car could have caught on fire. You know, I've seen that happen before when I lived in Florida several years ago. I was riding in a car going down a highway with a friend of mine and we saw someone off the road sitting in their vehicle with their whole back in up in flames.

Paul is right on that one, Lightnin. First off, nice wheels. Your Beemer looks great slammed that 2+. My first set of wheels was a black '63 Merc lowered 2" in the front, raised 6" in the back

Unfortunately, German cars have a history of fires (along with some others). Ask anyone who remembers those little independent gas heaters (these ran without the car engine turned on) in Volkwagens. If they didn't directly cause a fire, you might get gassed to death. I used to bomb around in a Karmann Ghia, and saw firemen try to put out the fire in a VW Westphalia that totally burnt in our company parking lot. The ill informed firemen added fuel to the fire with water on a magnesium engine block. Here's what can happen:

My brother won a professionally made custom Dew (dune) Buggy from Mountain Dew. It was cherry with goat emblems, Mickey Thompsons, snaked VW engine and more. No problems. His new Beemer had two fires even though professionally maintained. Because of insurance differences he couldn't get it repaired at the site of the last incident and the car was towed back across the USA/Canada border. He was less than happy. While it's true that a lot of cars like to light up, Germany has contributed to this list.

Thankfully, you didn't become a casualty and we are all happy for that.

There was certainly that risk, it was on my mind.

Fortunately, it was ahead of the rear wheel and away from the exhaust. I altered my route home to where there were no lights and only 2 stop signs, so I was able to keep it moving.

If it has caught Fire, well that's what insurance is for and I'm still young enough to 'eject' quickly.

Turned out that one of the rubber lines coming from the fuel pump had dry-rotted from 26 years of being in service. 8" of Fuel Hose and a new set of SS clamps and it's good to go.

Next Spring, I'll go in and replace all the Rubber in the Fuel system just to be proactive.

We own 7 cars and only one of them was made after the Clinton Administration, so I know what it takes to keep them humming.

cheers!

Thanks !

The wheels are the OEM 14" BBS Basketweaves.

I've managed to still find decent (Falken) Performance Tires in that size - very rare. I have another new set a buddy is storing in a Nitrogen vault - he has a produce Co. and uses it to ripen Fruit/Vegetables. We have them in one of those plastic poolside cabinets to keep them separate from the food. Under those conditions, the tires will remain 'New' for at least 20 years. I dread the day I have to go with a bigger wheel/tire, though I use 17's for my DOT Track tires.

The car is lowered so much that I have a 'crash panel' under the Oil Pan (and it's really scraped up). But the Center of Mass is only 14" off the pavement giving it such incredible handling.

cheers!
