You can learn to tell the distinction between intervals..that's probably all it does.

You might as well just sit down at the piano/guitar and play them and learn what they sound like..

then practice practice practice!

if you're playing by ear... why would you need a computer to tell you how to do it? listen to the song with your guitar in your hand, figure out the root note (or "tonic"), play a major or minor chord and listen for whichever one fits, and away you go.

over-simplistic, i know, but it's a start. save your money. learn the staff and basic music theory and do it the right way.

just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Playing by ear, is the abilty to hear the notes before you play them and that comes from having knowledge of your fretboard, essential in improvisation.
