I posted a clip of me playing Hide Away on purevolume. It's just my Squier Strat w/ Texas Specials plugged directly into the drive channel of my Fender Deluxe VM. No effects at all, except a little bit of reverb from the amp. Excuse the playing (particularly on the solo), I'm working on it.

Awesome, sounds good enough for me. This is the kind of stuff that should be on the forum. I know Brad is working on it but this is what it should be about not just talking.

Maybe next time you can do a video. I did one for my friends and they couldn't believe that was me playing.

Good stuff!! If I have to point out something the feel is a bit loose and the chords sound weird
Nice playing though!
I would say you should get a better drummer..?

As mentioned, very nice lead tone 8)
Hope to hear more of your playing in the future

I have to agree there. At first I thought it was a bad backing track. :?

I think the drummer is fine, actually. He's right in time, provides a pocket, knows the tune and plays some tasty, blues-style fills.

I think maybe you guys are reacting to the lack of a bass player and the nasty recording.

Hey Teaxs-

Sounds very good. I like your playing- nice clean playing. You are the MAN !

I love those Texas Specials- I got some of my own and WOW what a difference they make. Its the tone I was looking for.

As for the weirdness, bad recording, lack of bass player, and lack of talent and practice. lol

Actually, that's my drum teacher who's AWESOME. He mostly plays jazz (which is about the hardest thing you can do on drums). Unfortunately for me, I'm loosing him to Austin this fall. But I'm happy for him, since he has a good chance of going somewhere with his music there and not such a good chance of going somewhere here in Houston.
That was only his second time playing that song, and unlike 95% of drummers I've played with, he can actually adjust and react to how and what I play. He did a lot better on another take we did, but I did worse on that other take. So it was either you hear him screw up or hear me screw up. :P Naturally, I picked the one where he screws up.

Really good... it's difficult to pull off those little trills in a seemingly casual manner and get right back into the groove like that. You end up in the right place whether or not whatever you just did worked out the way you intended, and there are many players who have been at it for far longer than you who can't manage that!

Thanks. :) That probably happened the way it did because I've heard the song so many times. If you can sort of hum it in your head it makes learning it a lot easier.

Wow i can remember that phase nice job.Go back and listen to the Freddie King and Clapton versions as there are so many great licks in that song and it is not easy to get it right .I spent a lot of time on those 2 versions and theres still a lot of learning to do yet and then you can add your own licks like you did on the bass strings but you went back a lil to much I was waiting for you to come of the low notes then scream up the neck ,also play around with the toggle a verse on the neck, then scream on the bridge.Another classic to learn is the STUMBLE another FREDDIE KING KILLER.Over all a great job your on your way slinger and you brought back some great memories
