No one could have predicted the existence, let along the influence of the Strat. So it's impossible to predict whether or not it will happen again.

It'd be funny if in five hundred years parents are forcing their kids to play in rock bands instead of in orchestras and to listen to Hendrix instead of Mozart.

Obviously, that won't happen. Even in it's day, classical orchestral music was considered "serious" music, while folk songs and light opera were the crummy music of the masses. The upper-crust aura that orchestral music enjoyed (until it recently became instantly irrelevant) was a remnant of old class distinctions, and parents who "forced" their kids to learn it (if such parents exist outside 1950's American sitcoms) would have done so with the hope that their children would cross class boundaries with skills like music appreciation at their disposal. Strats and Hendrix will never be considered "upper class" music, or a passport to the country club.

But yeah, it's sure be funny. Unless you were the poor kid being forced to learn how to play like Hendrix. :D

As I read many of the posts, I have a thought. Before Leo and Les Paul created the Telecaster and Les Paul, there weren't any hard bodied electric guitars. They started it all and we have basicall evolved from there. It was kind of like Martin Creating the Dreadnought, the first full bodied guitar that could fill a room with sound. The stratocaster was born when guitar players wanted a guitar that didn't dig into the players side and had just an extra bit of tone with the addition of the middle pickup to compete with the Les Paul, that boasted humbuckers, not single coils. The humbuckers had a little warmer sound (Remember Les was a jazz guitarists and stuck with the pups that were on the archtops of the time)and there wasn't the feedback or noise that single coils are famous for. The Strat was the perfect guitar in that it bridged the gap between the Tele and Les Paul, was priced right, created a ton more tones than the Tele could compete with the Les Paul and well looked sharp! I don't think there will ever be the same point in history where the perfect storm for guitars will happen again. Since that perfect storm of the 50's that created the Telecaster, Les Paul and Stratocaster, has there ever been any significant groundbreaking guitars that changed the world of music like those three guitars?

Just like Elvis, The Beatles and the Strat I don't think we will see such a ground breaking and original guitar and musical change that will compare!! 8)

Les happily played with P-90s for quite some years, until HBs came around.

And in this opinion, a P-90 and their rellies, original Tele bridge and neck and big Mosrite singles and of course, Strat, Jazzmaster and Jaguar pups are still very, very hot and lovely-sounding pickups.

Personally preferred to HBs in most applications.

Nope.
The Stratocaster was a revolutionary design at the time of it's introduction. Every feature was there for a reason and form fit function. Anything that's come out since has been a modification/refinement of the original (not bad but not revolutionary), or a cosmetic change (again not bad but not revolutinary).

I also feel that the Les Paul is the same type of landmark guitar.

I think I'm pretty safe in saying that the majority of the guitars on the market today are, in one form or another, the offspring of either a Strat or a Les Paul.

Two guitar designs that were done right.

Which Stratocaster? It's a guitar nothing magical other then it was one of the first of it's style! Modular design, simplistic. There are many other guitars that have contributed to music as well. Another Stratocaster in name no but other great guitars yes! I have no doubt of that and they may even be made by Fender. It's Reality not sentimental bunk! Great gear is great gear!
