I don't think "Jerusalem" can be taken literally, since Blake was (as noted) a mystic of the spiritualist order and also barking mad.

But can you not feel a stirring your blood when they sing, "Bring me my bow of purest gold, bring me my arrows of desire?" Hell, I'm a freakin' American and it gets to me!

In my ears, "Jerusalem" is a declaration of an artist to the world...

"I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land."

I think in Blake's poem, Jerusalem is a state of mind. Now, I don't know enough history to know if Zionists took it as an anthem, but, sort of like Humpty Dumpty, all that matters to me is what it means when I hear it. :D

Totally correct sir. The Zionists were totally pro Israeli. I had been misinformed by someone who's knowledge i should of questioned years ago but in the spirit of fealty took as set in stone. I have only just played the youtube link through my stereo at full whack to drown out the neighbours midday rave anthem. Nothing beats a good brass section for sheer power.

BTW: I was going to invite you to a gig next Monday - but the wife has just said she wants her ticket after all. Sorry... :(

Any other details to share on said gig that could further ruin my wet tuesday? I strongly advise going to see Camille O'Sullivan, did you see that very leggy performance on the Jools Holland show.

Don't worry, I don't think you'll be too disappointed.

I have an idea you are less than knocked out by Joe Bonamassa. It so happens that my wife just produced good tickets to a show he's doing next Monday at the Albert Hall: but she thought she couldn't come herself, and so I was on the verge of seeing if you'd like to haul yourself down and give that man's playing a try in person.

Unfortunately, this morning the Missus announced she'd changed her engagement and will be coming to the gig after all, so no dice I'm afraid.

Probably wouldn't be your favorite thing anyhow, but I thought it might have been a nice opportunity to meet up. Oh well, another time...

Cheers - C

Certainly. And thankyou for the consideration.

Its not that i'm unimpressed by Joe Bonamassa, gilmour, page or mayer. I'm just not struck on the whole guitar superstar thing. Its becoming quite a dilema. I keep telling the band to drop solo's as i cant stand playing them. Its getting to the point that i find drum solo's more interesting.

I wonder how people like Clapton cope with it. Night after night for 40 years playing much the same stuff.
