I find that some weeks il spend all my time on guitar forums, or fiddling with my gear instead of practicing. i wana do guitar related stuff, but for some reason im not motivated to practice.

I find this a huge waste of time and want to remedy it. anyone ever do this and how'd you get around it?

Sometimes I do that. When I get carried away I'll put whatever I'm messing with in another room or a closet. Out of site, out of mind. That usually helps get my focus back where it needs to be. 8)

I used to, but in recent months (mostly due to my Fender Deluxe VM) I've finally found a sound I like, so I just plug it in and go. I probably still spend too much time looking at gear, how-to modification guides and forums on the internet. But I can't help that I'm a gear head.

that's not unususal. to learn scales i find very boring for me. since 2 weeks i train my ears with Maceo Parker Children's world. and the notes i heard out are in B. so i learn the B scale and his phrasing.

that's another way handle with scales.

maybe you need another way also to learn your favorite things you want to learn.

cheers :D

'Very rarely practice, except for weekly church band gig.

Most weeknights it's open a case an hour before bed, plug in and play whatever comes to mind-soul-fingertips.

Playing guitar should be a joy, not a chore. Dont force it, take some time off, do what you like.

ps. I spend alot of time here during the day because I'm at work :)

Turn everything off.. that is computer, tv, radio and all, and just leave your amp on and play your guitar :)

No, I just plug in and play.

Every few months I'll retire an amp and pull out another. Same with guitars. I've been playing my '05 American Series Strat lately. It had been in the case for most of a year because it was just too pretty to play. Now I'm ready to drag out my Hwy1 and Powerhouse Strats this weekend. I miss them.

Usually a CD goes in, the amp goes on, the guitar is plugged in and I play along with the masters................usually refreshing and always inspiring.

Actually, Tuesaday night I popped in the 2nd Crossroads concert DVD and I was jamming with Clapton and Winwood.

I felt my playing was inspired though they didn't seem to notice.

I was making that complaint to someone tonight, that I'd spent so much time trying to set up my wireless network -- 5 hours this afternoon -- that I could have been playing my guitars instead. Still can't "... get around it." Just need more discipline.

Lately my self discipline has been deplorable due to the break p of my band. I'm in the throws of putting another together but with starting a new job as well I just don't seem to have the time I used to have. It's doin my head in.......almost like I'm scared of the failure of the new band that its putting me off even making it happen.
