Interesting. From the places I have checked I could get 2 American Standard Strats for the price of 1 Gibson LP Standard.

WOW! where i live, all the local stores, and any online stores i see have a les paul std ( the equivalent of an Am std fender IMO) as being at least 1000 bucks more than the fender.

really though, if an Am std strat is 1000 bucks, and you got two les pauls for that tell us! id love to add a LP to my arsenal, and 500 bucks is a nice price!

On a serious note, I do think fenders are slightly overpriced, as are all high end guitars ( Gibson even more so, but thats not for this forum).

I mean sure it doesnt cost 6 times more to make an Am Std over a squier, yet look at the prices. sure the Am Std is a far superior guitar but 6 times superior? a squier will play the same songs, sound moderately teh same and will do the job in a pinch if your Am std stops working.

Even less of a difference between an Am Std and an Am deluxe, yet they cost 500 bucks more!

I guess its the law of diminishing returns. anyway, an item is only too expensive if folks wont buy it. it seems fender are doing well, so they must be priced ok ( i have one, and most folks on here have one or more also!)

In the local music superstore they have a giant wall of fenders, thats different each week as they are selling, vs the small collection of about 10 gibsons, that doesnt change all that often. Go fig.

Gibosons yes they make them in Phnom Penh, Cambodia right along the Basak River a good source of floating wood.

Now Gibsons are great guitars but not getting a LP for the price you are talking! Heck even Epi Custom's are 700.00+ and Studio's 4 to 500.00
