Hey Folks,
Ok...I know it's not a Fender but since everyone's been so supportive, I wanted to bring folks up to date on my latest refinish project. I think I had actually posted a bit about this in one of the bass forums a while back (perhaps even the Strat forum).

I had picked up this Yamaha "Motion B " bass at a guitar show a few weeks back. She had survived a fire and I got her for a whopping $30. I finally got the new logo done yesterday and got the first coats of clear shot so I sat down this morning and pieced everything together to get an idea of how she's going to look.

I can't remember if I posted any pics of her when I got her (if I did then just consider this as a refresher) so here's what she looked like the day I brought here home.....

Even in this smaller picture you can see the paint bubbled from the fire and where the pickup covers were melted. At first I wasn't even positive that she was even a Yamaha...because of the weird shaped pickups and headstock though, some folks over at Activebass.com were able to identify her for me and from some further research, turns out she's an MB II.

Here's how she looks now...

I think it's a little bit of an improvement :D.

It took me over a week of trial and error to figure out a way to do the new logo. As the body is black and the logo is white...and my inkjet printer doesn't do white, I had to get a bit creative. I finally ended up using a transfer decal kit...since the lettering had to be printed backwards so as to accept the adhesive, I was able to print the inverse of the lettering and then airbrush the white over the top of that so that once it was applied, the lettering came thru correctly.

Anyways, I still have a lot of work to do on her. I'm going to do at least another 2 or 3 coats of clear (probably more) and then she's going to have to sit for a month to dry. Also, I'm still trying to locate new pickup covers and I still need to clean up the fretboard a bit and do some more polishing on the chrome, but over-all I think this is a pretty good preview.

I'll get more pics up in a month or so once she's finished but again I wanted to give everyone a progress report on this one. I'm also still working on another project Strat and I just picked up a Johnson acoustic with a busted headstock which I'm also working on. The wife and I are in the process of giving up cigarettes so at least this gives me something to do with my hands! LOL!!!

Peace,
Jim
