Also ... if you are a Gilmour fan, make sure you have his first solo album in your collection. I am not a huge Floyd fan, but this is one of my favorite all-time albums.

Definitely one of my favorites. He's a great example of how you can play so gracefully and choose the perfect notes, and put soul into your playing that can say so much more than just shredding a million notes a minute.

For instance, Comfortable Numb is such an amazing solo, very basic, not hard to play, but has so much feeling and emotion.

I'll second that! I had an "aha" moment, the first time I watched my The Making of the Dark Side of the Moon DVD, with scenes of Gilmour laying down pedal and lap steel guitar parts. I was like "Aha! No wonder I couldn't ever pick out those parts!"

If I only had one choice of an all time favorite guitar player, however, I'd have to pick Leo Kottke. Otherwise, it's David Gilmour for my all time favorite rock guitarist, and Leo Kottke for my all time favorite folk guitar player. Then there's Roger McGuinn and George Harrison as my inspirations for wanting to play 12-string electric guitar. I have a 12-string acoustic-electric (Epiphone PR350-12E), but I haven't yet gotten around to obtaining an electric 12-string. To that end, I'll eventually build a 12-string "Telecaster Deluxe" after I've built a couple of partscaster Teles I've been collecting parts for...including a "Jagcaster" (Telecaster with Jaguar tremolo and pickups).

Matt

Interesting how the arrangements have evolved from the original PF recordings. A more complex instrumental grouping, additional voices, and now a full orchestra. With these huge sound systems and his new effects board, The Sound From Heaven becomes even more humbling. 8)
