I got back together with my old bassist (who's a million times better now) and found a drummer. We've only recorded one track so far (one of my old ones, What to Say) but will be recording more shortly.

Please let me know what you think; this is all really new to me and I've started from scratch mixing this song 10+ times already.

The guitar is an American Standard Strat and the bass is an American Standard Jazz in case you were interested.

Sounds OK and please take no offense but you need a singer. He is a little off key in the Hey,Hey part, but a good start and don't give up. :) I would not even try to sing !

I don't like the harmonica being played along with the guitar part. Other than that its good

One of two singers actually. The bassist writes songs and sings as well. We're going to record some of his songs this weekend.

And THANK YOU!! for the constructive criticism. That's what we need.

I kinda like the harmonica bit at the beginning though, but MySpace's poor quality really doesn't do it justice. I think it gives the song a little kick at the start. Other opinions? It would be really easy to remove...

No, no, that's exactly what I want. Nice doesn't particularly help me out, although admittedly it's nice to hear every now and then.

Yeah, I agree on the vocal thing a little but for most of the song he is ok.
I actually think, the band can help him out more, it's a good song and I think it can be a great song if you give it some dynamics.
It's all one level with the volume and movement.
Some light and shade, stops and starts. Crash chords where the hey-heys are.
Best way I can describe this, is if you think of how The Who would go about attacking this song. They would give it power and a lot of tension and interest.
This is potentially a great song. Try attacking it in different ways and I think you could have a winner here but it needs work.
That's my humble opinion, hope it helps.
Good luck, I liked it and I think you have a songwriting talent.
Work on dynamics.
Cheers. :D

Good song with the ability to be a great song with a little work. Great text to. And I liked the harmonica in the beginning really gave the song that folk touch.

Good luck.

+1000 on what Rhumba said. Give it some up, downs, twists, color, etc. Got lost in the "sameness" of the sound.

That said I did really like the lyrics. Some pretty good creative writing.

For what's it worth the harmonica gave it a neat feel.

+1000 to you for having the gall stones to put it up for all to hear. Nice job dude.

I think it's definitely a good song, and lots of valid points have been made above. I think one thing that would really benefit your overall sound is a beefier guitar tone. I thought that it was weak and occasionally indistinct. Unfortunately, getting a wicked tone is hard to do. My best advice would be find (or even rent) the best amp and microphone you can. Also, keep in mind that what works live generally has no bearing on what works in the studio. I would take off a lot of distortion, personally; too much distortion can please the ear, but it doesn't sound great amplified live or recorded. Just play around and have fun with it! I like using the amp while its in an (empty) bathtub with the mic near the ceiling.

Hey IF YOU CANT BE HONEST and are just going to lie as to not hurt someones feeling you are doing the guy an injustice. I did not care for most of the vocals, the guitar was thin.On the other hand I really liked The harmonica, the song had a kind of Dylan like quality to it and I would go in the total opposite direction and use an acoustic instead of an electric. If you have the time to do it like that rerocord it the way I said and I think it will be much improved all around/ keep up the good work.
