Post subject: Installing SCN Tele Pickups-----QUESTION

Ok, just got these SCN pups for my 1966 Tele. I've got a question about the bridge pickup ground wiring. See below.

The wire on the right comes from the pickup to the piece of metal (which I know goes between the pup and bridge plate) and the wire on the far left goes to the control plate, but, what about the other small wire in the middle? It's not long enough to go to the control plate, so what is it's purpose? Thanks!
