Ive been trying to master hideaway by John Mayalls bluesbreakers feat Clapton.
I have no problem playing it improv, by just messing with E maj and E min scales. Last week i got Guitar Techniques, and it has the song all tabbed out.

Im trying to mimic that but from about 1:02 mins on Clapton switches between maj and min all over the place, creating weird licks that are quite fast and i cant bloody well nail.

I know improv is great, but i just wanted to try learning some of this "a la clapton" so i could throw some of his techniques into my improv but its not working ( trying for the last 3 days now).

anyone got any advice on this song and claptons style in it?

Whenever I run into something that difficult I try not to think of the changes at first and just play it over and over slowly. Once I pickup on a pattern I'll start to up the tempo a bit and work my way up to the actual tempo as I master the pattern for each lick. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries other times it takes a couple of days. You just have to keep at it and slow it down as much as it takes untill you get it right.

I hear ya. the only thing about slowing it down is it sounds absolutely nothing like the original when played slowly, and this makes it difficult to pick up. il persist with it for a few more days.

Thanks.

I agree; that's what I do most of the time.

Perhaps give a listen to the original version by Freddy King and you could tell where Clapton is going. I have never been able to pull off that double stop break down. Good luck
