Yep...Gilmour.

Jimi at #2.

It's mostly a tone thing. Gilmour's sound just speaks to me. After 36 years I still never get tired of it.

From the list supplied, it has to be David Gilmour for me. The others listed, are pretty good in their own rights too.

Izzy Stradlin.....so underrated and forgetten by the masses. Slash has never sounded as good than when he was flanked by Stradlin.

Pete Green for me above anyone else. Unsurpassed ear for melody and note selection.

Not surprisingly, none of my favorites on on the poll.

Larry Carlton
Oz Noy
Robben Ford
Pat Metheney
Jim Hall
Eric Johnson

Talk about people who have achieved a higher plane in combining technique, "soul," and musicality, nobody can touch these guys.

Wow 26 post and nobody mentioned VanHalen.I had to trim the fat and still have 17 names not in order just my ultimate faves Hendrix/Vanhalen/Jeff Beck/Gary Moore/SRV/Santana/Brian Setzer/Danny Gatton/Clapton/Angus Young/Joe Satriani/Jimmy Page/Randy Rhoades/Brian May/Blackmoore/Slash. The list could go on but these cats were my biggest influences.

Though I voted for Hendrix, George Harrison is my favorite guitar player.

Yes...Where is SRV?

I would also add Henry Garza of "Los Lonely Boys" and Warren Haynes.

Eric Clapton and John Mayer.

Lots of people hate on Mr. Mayer, but take a look at "Where The Light Is" DVD. Yeah, some of his pop-stuff was pretty weak, but he's got a great style and a smooth sounds... Plus, he plays Strat's almost exclusively!

Check out the live version of "Gravity" from the DVD on YouTube (or the DVD), during the solo he hits 12th fret harmonics and manipulates them w/ the part of the string above the nut. Never heard that before!
