I cannot vote for just one in this line-up.

I like Gilmour, Henderix, Slash, Hammett, and the Satch-man; each plays differently and are the best in what they play.

Not to mention Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Alex Lifeson, Dave Murray, Adrien Smith, Randy Rhoades, ect....

My top ten favorites aren't anywhere at all on your list. In no particular order except alphabetic:

Jeff Beck
Kenny Burrell
James Burton
Charlie Christian
Al Di Meola
Danny Gatton
Grant Green
Joe Pass
Jimmy Vaughn (love SRV too, but Jimmy plays more my style)
Anthony Wilson

Come to think of it, no one on my "2nd 10" is either, but there I'd be listing guitarists less familiar to the mainstream such as Emily Remler and Gabor Szabo or mostly in the blues field like Gary Moore, Debbie Davies and even Bonnie Raitt (though most think of her as more a singer, she does very credible traditional slide work). Then in rock, I'd have to mention the late Duane Allman, the very lively Jeff Beck, Peter Green and the list could go on and on.

From that list I can't choose one, I like them all.
Green and Clapton maybe edge it but I could choose others.
Now if Jeff Beck was there................ 8)

I agree, Rhumba...can't pick just one. Jeff Beck should be on the list. Jimmy Page, too....

Gotta go with Slash. But not for his rock guitar, rather for his classical and jazz work. 8)

Jimi Hendrix. the passion in his playing has inspired so many after him, including me! he had an amazing way of playing rhythm and lead at the same time that is a joy to listen to.
