if you're a kid, what do your parents think of you playing guitar?

if you're not what did they use to when you were?

my mom doesn't mind acoustic but she isn't to hip on my wanting an electric :(

all i have to say is too bad mom :)

I'm a parent and grandparent. I encourage my children/grandchildren to play if they have the desire.

My 4 year old grandson has a drum kit here at my house!

My dad and Grandfather have been my biggest influences to pick up the guitar. I have never gotten rid of a guitar I still have every guitar I have ever owned which is 10 now. Not a bad collection for only being 23 years old. My mother has always loved it when I play for her.

My dad tried to play guitar about 35 years ago and couldn't do it. He encourages me to play. My mom likes to hear me play also.

My parents were always supportive of anything I wanted to do. I don't think they really cared what I did, to tell the truth. I can't say that they agree with my listening habits though. I come from a family that seems to think that there is only two types of music, country and western, hehe. I love country (the old stuff) just as much as they do, but I would rather mainly play other things.

They've always been pretty cool through all of my phases, I can't complain.

My parents like the fact that I play guitar, but think that when I get older and start trying to make it as an artist, I'll go and be a druggy, or that I'm going to be too dissapointed that I didn't make it, and want me to do something more... ehhh... productive, maybe? But I play because I want to, and even if I don't make it as an artist, I'll still play for a living, no matter what.

My mom is also more supportive than my dad, even though he plays. My mom compliments me more than my dad, especially when I'm not around, not that my dad doesn't. I think that my mom would enjoy seeing as a big artist less though, because my dad is so into music.

Or maybe I'm just wrong.................................................

Even though my parents are long gone I'll reply.

My parents bought me my first two guitars. Weird thing is they never encouraged me or listened. I guess they figured it was something I'd grow out of...even though I'd told them it was a lifelong thing for me. 37 years later and it's the only thing I can say I've stuck with since I was a kid. Maybe they should have sent me to Berklee like I wanted back then?
